Hi Guys.
I cannot get the ORC off my Farmall H, but before I cut it off, is it possible to take loose the cap that holds the oil seal and pull the PTO shaft out and change the oil seal from the other end, Thanks for any help.
Ken.

I think you are talking about changing the seal on the PTO shaft..it does not require removal of the PTO..I always parked the H on the gangway front facing down so that no oil would run out. Using some small chisels and a seal puller I picked out the old seal, made sure the shaft was clean, greased it and slid the new seal into place and carefully tapped it into place with a flat block of hardwood..maybe I am misunderstanding something here but if its just a seal its straight forward. Good luck with it.

Hi Michael.
I cannot get my over run clutch off and was wondering if I can pull the PTO shaft and do it that way, other wise I will have to cut the ORC off before I can take the seal cap off Thank you.

Ken I am pretty sure that the housing has to come off the back side of the shaft. Post this down in the Farmall/IH board. Those guys would know right away. I have not worked on a Farmall "H" in 30 years or more.

On your ORC. Look and see if you can take it apart. Many of them have a large snap ring on the back side that you remove and the outerhalf slides off the inter collar. IF you can get it apart you may see what is holding it better. If it is still stuck you may be able to heat the inner half and get it to move.

Another thing I have done to get stuck things off the PTO shafts. Rig your self up a slide hammer type of tool on the shaft side of the ORC. Then you can really jar the heck out of it. I have an old PTO yoke that fits 540 PTO shafts. I welded a one inch shaft to the back of it. That shaft is about three feet long. I put an old disk spool on that and welded a big plate on the end of the shaft. You can slide the disk spool as your slide weight. With this you can really put some force on something that is stuck.

If you do not have anything like that you can make it. The easiest is an old PTO shaft or yoke. If you do not have that then if your ORC has a cross hole in it bolt two pieces of iron to the PTO. They should be longer than the PTO shaft is. Then bolt your slide hammer between the pieces of steel.

Did you remove the grease fitting(s) in the ORC and drive out the rollpin that holds it in place? Disregard if you have already done this.

ORC often has a roll pin indies it, under a pair of grease zerks or plugs. Take out both, wash well with your fave rote parts cleaner, and punch out the pin. Often times the roll pin is badly chewed up and takes some work to get out.

Hi Guys.
Thank you for all the help, but I ended up cutting the ORC off, when I got it off I found the splines were rough, so I have filed the splines smooth and it should be OK when I get a new ORC. I have had this Farmall H 12 years and have been coming on this site for help from time to time and found you guys very helpfull Thank you all. Ken.

How bad is it leaking? I would put a diaper under it if it is only dripping and start soaking it with penetrating oil and keep using it. A slide hammer is one good idea, but they are hard on bearings. The best way would be if you can get it apart so you can use a puller that would push on the end of the shaft.
