trailer decks? treatment

Before it comes up, Do not use used motor oil, it holds dirt and moisture. I use fence paint on my rough oak decks.

You are right, boiled lindseed oil is the best preservative,I cut it with paint thinner so it soaks in better..50/50..I use it on patio decks, stairs at the cottage..anywhere wood needs to be preserved..I don't use paint or stain,it flecks off after some time..lindseed oil is there for the duration

My new gooseneck, I used lightly used left over low visc. hy-gard transmission fluid....nice color when I was finished and it soaked in right away, no mess.

Lots of people use used motor oil.
My trailer has a pressure treated wood deck. I primed it with oil based primer, then painted it with equipment enamel. I painted it when we built the trailer in '86 and have only had to repaint it once since.

I bought my trailer in 2001. I have applied used motor oil to the deck at least once every year since I bought it. The trailer sets outside in the weather all the time. The deck still looks like new.

I painted mine when I bought it.. NEVER AGAIN.. I use it to haul hay in the summer...(car trailer type) made it so slick couldnt stay upright. I havent done the motor oil thing yet I do use oil on my poo spreader.. which has worked really well

Used oil but only if you plan on it setting outside for a while( it takes awhile to soak in and age a little)

(quoted from post at 11:50:03 09/19/13) Linseed oil is the best thing you can use. I have used it for year's with excellent results.

I agree that linseed oil is good but coal-black 15w-40 out of my Cummins works too; but they threw me out of a trailer beauty contest because of it :)
