Electrical/Grain truck ?

The 60$ voltage regulator that powers the fuel, oil pressure, and coolant temp is bad. The regulator drops 12v down to 5v. Could any of you guys tell me what value resistor I would need to achieve this?

Must be a Ford.

Anyway, this is probably NOT what you want to hear but what you need is a 5 volt three terminal solid state voltage regulator. Now where to find it is another question. Start with Radio shack, maybe Mouser electronics. Back in the day I put a bunch of em on 55 fords that were converted from 6 volt to 12 volt.

On my 55 Ford, I just changed the lights and put a resistor on the Coil..
The Cig liter would REALLY work Fast..and jump right out on the seat..!!
I had a HiPo 352 and '55 Merc Over-drive in front of Automatic rear gears..it would really fly on the Interstate ( I was in the Service)..

Ron..

A resistor is way too much work, I would agree and try a 7805 with a heat sink. It will either work or shutdown on over-current.

The resistance you would need to add depends on the resistance of the existing devices. That resistance changes depending on what the temp/oil pressure etc. is (that is basically how the gauges give you a variable reading). Therefore, a fixed resistor would result in fluctuating voltage as the temp, pressure, or fuel level changes. If it was just one indicator light in the circuit it could work, but if there are multiple things that may come on independently it needs something more flexible.
