Got Ford 6.7L back today

I got back from AZ today and picked up my truck. It had a bad EGT sensor at 59K that they towed in and replaced under warranty.

The dealer said they do quite a few.

I am planning to buy a spare, keep it and a wrench in the truck. It is DEAD when that sensor fails.

I think you have one like mine. I am not worried, will just keep a spare sensor. The truck has been super.

Don't you love a $40-50 K vehicle that will still leave you stranded???? I am trying to keep the best OLDER stuff I can to drive. The wife does keep a newer car. Her 2011 is such a mess under the hood I don't even change the oil in it.

I told her jokingly that when it quits just step out and light it. The fire will get here a ride fast. LOL

I have had as many issues with new vehicles as the old beaters I drove as a kid. The beaters did not have a payment book.

Glad they found the problem. I don't like the fact they shut down a vehicle completely for an EMISSION problem. Make them go to a low power come home setting but to completely shut it down is just wrong.

The issue is that the computer thinks the exhaust is on fire when it shuts down, so it is more of a safety issue than an emissions one.

It really does not build my trust, but I would bet any diesel with a particulate filter will have this potential issue.

Yeah - 'Built Ford tuff with Chevy stuff'!

The exhaust gas temperature EGT sensor does that to protect you from catching on fire. The dpf gets to 1000+ degrees during regen. If it senses higher temps, its programed to shut down to protect you. I don't think you could unplug it and go into limp mode; there are emergency vehicle programing that may, but I am not sure.
You are correct, new vehicles used to be the way to go, but now older is more dependable, or at least have less ways to fail on you. Mark

Me and the wife drive 15 year old GMC trucks with the 6.5 diesels. We have 3 of them(1 for standby).I bought them cheap, 11 grand for all 3. Been driving these diesels since 96,i never bought new,i still use the first one(a 89 with 6.2) on the farm. I do all my own maintenance and repair.
We've never been stranded on the road yet.

GM, like a rock :D
