just a few pictures of making applesauce. Our apples are not nice looking,I did get to spray the dormant oil,but with a rainy season,I missed some spraying,When they are peeled, they are fine,My daughter likes applesauce chunky style,no added sugar ,and lots of cinnamon. We put them in 1/2 pint jars, she likes the small jars to take to her dorm room in college.

Looks great, I have several apple trees, about half of the apples are UGLY, but like you say, cooked they all taste same, still have about 1 bushel to process and maybe another 1 bushel still on trees, not complaining, will be good to open when the snow is flying :)

It don't matter what they look like, its all good. An apple tree I planted with my father in '79 which has not produced much over the years had quite a few apples this year, couple of bushels, and some are huge, they are just now about ripe, going to have to make something with them and see about keeping that tree in production, pruning and required spray before they bud again in the spring, I actually need to read up on the care of an apple tree, its mate, and cross pollinator died some years back, not sure what helped it this year.

From the end of august to october, there are more darned apples on the side of this hill, old pasture, incredible, and some are sweet, palatable, others less sweet, all kinds of denominations of them.

Great to see you and so many others enjoy them, and making things with them, had I the time I;d fool with them more, but I will get every last one off this tree on my lawn, deer cleaned up all the ones that have fallen or are no good, in one night.

LOL ! Try telling my mother that, I said the same thing, I have some old peeler that has worked perfectly on apples for years.

I just ordered one of those gadgets that peels, cores and slices apples. 18 dollars on Amazon.

We just finished 23.5 pints in the last couple of days. We just quarter or cut them in more pieces for the harder apples like Gala, throw them in a pot and cook until done. Wife then runs them through a Victorio Strainer twice. We add spices, put in jars and process in boiling water bath for ten minutes. We started with 1/2 bushel of Macintosh and 1/2 bushel of Galas. Still have enough left for a few pints of apple butter.

Larry,
I can remember my dad standing on the roof of an old Hudson picking apples off a tree in our fence-line 50 some years ago. Biggest apples I ever saw and the best tasting, don't know what kind they are, big as your fist. Last week dad ate the last one that fell off that tree - my dad and that tree are still going strong.

We use a Victorio Strainer, just quarter the apples and cook them, then run thru the strainer. We season with sugar and cinnamon. Just finished 62 jars, and about that many yet to go. Really good stuff.
