gator alternator

As we play with the idle and are not doing a lot of off and on work we still get a morning or two or three with a dead battery.

The manual shows the alternator but where the heck is it? Is it underneath the machine?

I am looking for the belt to check it"s tightness first and it"s not obvious.

Thanks,
Bill

Which model do you have? Most of the alternators
listed for the Gators are belt driven. Hal
PS: Measure the battery voltage at the battery using a volt meter and the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. On a 12 volt battery should be charging 14.0 to 14.5 volts. If the alternator has an internal regulator it could be causing the discharge.

2005 TH 6X4.

It is not visible when tilting the bed.

I will look behind the flywheel tomorrow.

Thanks,
Bill

Should the Gator rev down once you take your foot of the gas pedal?

My son seems to think ours takes some time to do so.

Should it or not?

iirc the stock alternator is a flywheel magnet/stator unit built into the engine.
The optional supper duper high output alternator is a belt driven external alternator.
Maybe worth considering upgrading ?

I would think it should lower to an idle. Call your JD dealer to make sure. The throttle linkage may be binding some. Hal

Since your engine has a stator for charging the battery you should have a rectifier/regulator that converts the AC voltage to DC voltage. If you can locate the rectifier/regulator you can measure the AC voltage which should be around 30 volts using a volt meter set on AC volts. You will need the engine running above an idle, so be careful around that engine.

If you have AC voltage switch your volt meter to DC volts and see if you have 14 volts or better when the engine is running above an idle. Hal

The older gators should drop fairly quickly, the new ones (825i? I don't remember which is which) take a little longer. I have adjusted the throttle stop on a couple to lower the idle speed and it drops to low idle a bit better.
