electric meat grinder recommendations

The ones at cablelas look pretty good for the price but they are double what you want to spend. Have never seen them run myself.

I have seen an LEM #12 grinder. It was adequate but very noisy like it had straight cut gears and price is similar to Cabelas.

The one you should be looking for is an older Hobart. They are extremly well built and worth every penny you spend on one. Friend got lucky and found a 4822 on craigslist for 200 bucks about a month ago.

If you grind any appreciable amount you will need to up your spending limit. I would recommend a #22 grinder if you want to be able to grind 50+ lbs in short order. I have a #22 and brother in law has a #12. Next time I have to help him grind, I will bring mine!!
I've bought plates and knives here with good luck, but cannot say on their grinders...

I bought one from Northern Tool that comes with a v belt pulley. I think it is a number 22 grinder. Added a 1 hp electric motor and am very satisfied with it. It takes longer to clean it up than it does to grind all the burger meat from a deer. I like to have the meat from a couple deer (or one elk) at a time if possible.

We have a Lem #5. Cost under $200 last year (they are slightly higher now). It has cut up 5 deer last year, and 4 more this year, plus a nice sized steer. Just make sure your meat is COLD before you grind (any grinder will work best when the meat is cold).

I found that a local meat market will grind venison at the end of the day for nothing if it is brought in ready to go. For 25 cents a pound they will grind and wrap it. I had mine done there, took them about 10 minutes from start to finish grinding and wrapping.
