eBay Problem

I have been buying on eBay for over 12 years. Most of the items were for tractors and equipment. I have signed in and signed out hundreds of times, but things have changed.
I just signed in and could ask a question and go to my ebay. Got ready to spike an item for my finish mower, and got the message "not signed in" and this is not the first time this has happened.
I then tried to sign out and was not allowed because there is a continuing problem of no drop down beside my name in the upper left corner. Occasionally it will be there.
I rebooted my PC and was still logged in.
The only way I can sign out is to clear all history, along with cookies, with CC-Cleaner---which I have done many times.
I have posted this complaint three times with eBay--but of course members are supposed to answer.
Something is wrong and I am afraid to use EBAY until I get this problem solved.
Sorry for the rant!!

I have had that issue in the past, or at least something like it. Both times I was a version behind on my browser (mozilla) and once I updated to the latest it worked fine.

I have had this happen a time or two. Best thing to do is sign IN and THEN sign out.

When you sign in, there is a checkbox to keep you signed in for 2 weeks. I always uncheck it, as I don't care to stay signes in. eBay uses cookies to detect if you are signed in or not. When the box is NOT checked, eBay should delete or change the cookie to reflect your status upon signing out. This does not always happen. If eBay sees the cookie, it thinks you are still signed in.

(quoted from post at 23:03:02 11/26/13) Why don't you open a new account with new user name and new password?
If I did that---I would loose my 100% rating for 526 items over 12 years.

Me too but I keep thinking it is my computer because I also have to sign in at another site and this one I often have to retype my name after I just made a post teo minutes prior. I don't even want to talk about how eBay has been lately.

Ebay can automatically log you out. Your browser's cookies may be "out of sync" with Ebay's web server.

What browser are you using ? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari ?

Assuming you're using MS Windows... what version XP, Vista, 7, 8 ? That will help give some perspective to your problem.

Is your CC Cleaner the latest version ? A New version of Internet Explorer was released recently and older versions of CC Cleaner may not be do everything for the new version of IE.

I use a Firefox clone and sometimes I need to go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Cache and "Clear" it. I sometimes need to manually clear the cookies too.

Thanks for the useful information. I don't know a lot about computers, just enough to get by. I use Internet Explorer 7 and the CC cleaner is an old version.
I will look into what you are saying.
It always amazes me of all the good advise that is offered on this site.

You've probably lost a few bits of IE or Windows along the way. Mine does the same thing with Amazon but Ebay works fine. I cheated and installed Google Chrome just so I can use Amazon.

Internet Explorer 7 is VERY old... it was originally released in 2006. Can I assume you are using Windows XP ? XP will run IE 9 (IE 11 is the latest version, but it won't run on XP.) You may know that Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft on April 8, 2014. What this means is that updates which keep your computer stable and secure will not be made after that date. If you are careful what you click and keep your antivirus up to date you may be O.K.

If you are using Microsoft Vista, you still have some life left in your computer. Either way, at a minimum, I would consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 9. This may fix you up for a while. I could help you find a link, but I'm not sure which version of Windows you're running. An upgrade link is easy enough to find with Google.

Web site developers need to test their software with many different kinds and versions of web browsers. Some times the effort it takes to support old versions of some browsers isn't worth it when only a few people are using it. It's possible that Ebay has made such changes lately and you may have gotten caught in this situation.

Another idea... There are some good deals on Dell business class, certified refurbished computers with Windows 7 on Ebay for less than $200. Some still have warranty. I got one for my wife's work a few months back and she hasn't had a bit of trouble with it.

...

I rarely use Internet Explorer except for testing. I recommend Firefox.

Are you using Internet Explorer 11. If you are that may be the problem. My computer installed version 11 and You Tube would hang and not load. I finally uninstalled the IE 11 update back to version 10 and have had no problems so far.
I think part of the problem is a problem with the current version of Adobe Flash.

I've seen that happen... To fix, I Right-Clicked where YouTube plays the video. Select "Settings"... Uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration". Click "Close". That may help it work.

Google Chrome works very well with YouTube. Google actually owns YouTube.

What operating system are you using. If you are using Windows XP you need to have Internet Explorer version 8. If you have Windows 7 you need version 10. If you are using XP your best option may be to download Firefox or Chrome to solve the problem.

On the night of the 25th, I had a single up update. When I booted up the next day, I got the MS screen but could not boot up anything. Called my computer tech, said to shut off and continually hit f8. Then go to computer restore and restore system to prior update. All was well until I shut down, and it did it to me again. What I finally figured out was MS dumped Explorer 11 on me. They had done this once before. I was on 7. I uninstalled 11 and rebooted and ended up with Explorer 9. Things seem to be working okay. I called MS about this and they wanted to charge me to fix what they screwed up. Plus the accent was not very compatible with me.
