Hillbilly block heater...

Here's how I'm going to keep my rental snow pushing hoe warm overnight when it's going to be -2. Was working on my composting area and just opened up a pile of 100 degree leaves, and walla, park over it and it'll keep it warm enough to help it start!!

This might work unless you get too much wind and blow all the heat away. My dad had a HD 10 AC dozer with a Detroit that needed ether to start in the summer. We would put 5 gallon of diesel in a barrel in cold weather and when that was gone it would usually start. One time it was real cold and put too much in and it blew the head.

I was just kidding, it's parked next to the pile. Funny how the critters have learned this and my mulch pile are warm. Deer come and bed down against it, like their own electric blanket! If it snows hard, there will be snow on the top for a day, but then the heat melts everything on top. I know I could heat my house and shop or partially do it with some good ideas.

I had a unused silo next to the cow barn, A couple years ago, I decided to burn up some car tires, at night, when it was real cloudy. Musta burnt up 20-30, when I walked outside to see if any smoke or light was showing. Friggin cows piled up next to it about 3 deep, chewin cud, steam comin offa em. I shut it down at that point, didn't want to barbecue any of them daft buggers!

My real job is mowing, etc. so they get brought back, but many get mowed and chopped and left to lay. I have two vac trucks that collect them and chop the leaves up some. I mix them with grass, perennial flowers and more and after 3-4 more mixings and 1.5 years I get some really nice compost. That's just a little of the pile, probably 500 cu yards. My field is on the east side of it so whatever may blow is no big deal. Woods is on west side. Funny how warm it is near the pile when 15 degrees out!

worx for me lol ,,. what does not work is the cone the hillbillies made to split wood with the very nice japanes pikup truk with automatic tranny ,,.. dangerous asf--k

Don't know about this one, Pete, but I can take up to 4 car/truck tires up to burns crossing, at a time. law changed since back then, re car tires.

We have people here heating their houses from chopped wood piles. They run pipes through the pile and circulate water in them. Works well if set up correctly. They need a new pile every year though
