Plugs and Caps for Hydraulics

Hello:

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.

I need to take a cylinder off my loader to bring it in for repair, and need some plugs and caps for the job. Seems like I am always looking for what I would call common fittings; plugs, caps or whatever.

Does anyone know where I can buy a basic kit for larger machinery? When I go to the auto store it seems like the price per piece is pretty high.

Thanks.

I got a whole bucket load of caps from a diesel repair shop years ago but practically none of them is a usable size. They're either a twitch too big or small. I do keep every plastic cap and plug of every size and shape and put them in a drawer. Quite often none of THEM is the right size GRRR. Jim

If your looking for metal plugs then the cheapest place I know of to get them is Surplus Center. If your looking for plastic, then try Caplugs. I use both when I'm working on equipment. Typically unless the system is going to be under pressure, or say the opening is below the level in the hydraulic tank and would be prone to leaking over time, I use plastic plugs. If I need the complete seal then you can't go wrong with the metal ones.

I have gotten plugs from both places over the years, but that still doesn't keep me from eimply keeping the plugs and caps that come off of everything I buy or get repaired...Those odd balls have saved my butt on quite a few occasions.

I save the plastic caps on new hyd hoses/lines, and batteries. Many fit the hyd ends I need to protect on cyl, etc.

I picked up many good items from the floor of a local dealer shop where they assemble new equipment.
