OT - Running on generator

Yep, extension cords all over the house but critical stuff has power. I have a plug in furnace for just this type of event.

5000 watt troy built fired right up, after I remembered to turn the fuel on :)
First time started in a year I think. Bless Startron fuel additive.

0 outside here in east central KY.

I have a 35 gal drum of fuel with Startron in it.

Wish I had changed the oil though... But it has synthetic oil in it. I run synthetic in all my small engines.

Of course both tires on the genny were flat, Kinda hard to drag out.

My son has been using my Troy Built 3550 a lot here lately working on his (new) 160+ year old house. I made him put it in my old shop next to the well house last night just in case the power went out.

PS. My problem is remembering to turn the switch on.

Hey with your gen-sets don't forget the air filter. If it's gray--throw it away! They start and run so much better with a clean filter. I run both of my big generators on Hi-test. Put startron in them too. Adjust the carb to run nice and smooth with the Hi-test so it is not hunting. When they are running the throttle should NOT be moving. That is how your throttle shaft gets worn out. You get better starts and a little longer run time per gallon with Hi-test. ALSO use the gas for the season. Summer gas or winter gas. Right now I only have 10 gallons of gas in Eagle safety cans. If the weather channel says a big blizzard is on the way, that is when I go fill the other 5 gallon cans up. Have four of them. Just me so I run the generator for a couple of hours at a time. Right now in South Jersey at 12noon it was 7* a little bit ago and 11* now. Think I will bake another double batch of chocolate chip toalhouse cookies.Jeffcat

Watched two kids pull and pull on a Honda motor. They were
switching out pulling the rope, aggravated and cussing. I know
they have a gas shutoff that can get forgot but I could smell the raw
gas. I couldn't help but say, "I have never seen a Honda not start. If
there is gas in it and the switch is on, it'll run". They looked at each
other, hit the switch, and it fired on the next pull. They never even
looked at me, just ducked their heads and disappeared! I do stupid
stuff all the time, but I usually try to keep it to myself!

I use a Gen set out of a motor home that someone let rot down. Is a 4 KW Kohler Runs at 1800 RPM. Don't run hole house but keeps things going.

Electric back on :)
think I will leave the extension cords out till the cold weather breaks in another day.

Was a pall bearer at a funeral today.
about a -20 wind chill. The graveside part was pretty brief.

How can you get more run time out of gas that produces less power???
