Hard steering

I have a 2006 silverado 4x4. Sometimes when it is cold out the steering wheel is hard to turn left, right turn is ok. Put on a new pump but this didn't help. Anybody have any ideas why this is happening?

It's going to be something in the rack assy. Probably in the directional valve behind the sector shaft. Easy and quick, buy a rebuilt rack, or try to get it apart and find the problem.

Intermittent problems can be very difficult to diagnose or repair with certainty, personally, I'd replace it.

Sounds like a classic case of "morning sickness" that used to plague the rack & pinions of the '80's and early '90's. Unless you're knowledgeable in tearing into a rack & pinion, I would advise replacing the unit with a reman unit. Pretty easy to do on those trucks.
Good Luck and God Bless
