Threaded gas line fittings..(sealer).

(quoted from post at 08:31:11 01/22/14) What is a good sealer to use on gas line fittings?..thanks..

If it is a compression type fitting and it leaks, there is nothing that will seal it up short of a NEW fitting.

Teflon tape or paste. The paste is better than tape because it gets into more cracks. Also makes it easier yo undo the fitting.

It cheaper to replace than to try and stop it from leaking. If you need a quick fix that will hold for a short time then heat it up with a propane torch till red the put in water to cool it off no the cooling won't temper it.

Heat a gas line fitting up with a Propane torch? What if it"s still hook up to the gas tank on a tractor or propane tank? Hope to ell he don"t try it!

You guys missed the point if he uses a torch he won't have to worry about the leak and a matter of fact he won't have to worry about anything again. LOL!!

I prefer to use a silicone based sealer like automotive gasket maker. Seals well, prevents rusting and freezing up like with pipe dope.

I have never used any type sealer on any gasoline line. Most are double flare fittings so I would recommend replacing. I don't like to gamble on this type work, and I consider using sealer to be a patch job!

no sealer is ever used on gas line fittings. just get a new line with new furrel. and if the line is long enough just cut the end of line and install new furrels. at least specify what kind of line it is.

I would use motor oil. The main purpose of pipe dope or pipe tape is to lubricate the threads to enable it to be tightened further. I have been told this by more then one certified Pipe Fitter.
Haven't had a failure yet.
