Popular Mechanics Farm Manual

My wife bought me a new book from our local fleamarket today. With this, I can build a house, a tractor, a fence, a chicken shed and just about everything else a farmer will ever need. Do any of you in the USA still have a copy, and if you do, is it still useful? This copy is from 1953. Phil

They actually published a book that had a lot of how to stuff in it from building your own grain conveyor to building ram pipes for water. Pretty interesting book and a lot of it is still useful information. I got the book with about 10 other books I bought off an old guy.

I've got several of those along with "Farm Journal" and "Farm Mechanic" from the 1920s, "Tractor Field Book" 1930s-1950s, etc. Lots of very useful information.

How about that Winchester '94 $69.00 !!!!I enjoy seeing the artwork in the advertising, thats what my grandfather did for a living, commercial art and many other things, not much of that going on today.

I have what I believe is a complete collection of Life Magazines, they were his, from the first edition until they stopped in the early 70's or late 60's, some of the advertisements, the content, just crazy the mentality back then, especially with infants and children, things they thought were good. I've often considered selling them or doing something with these, they should stay together, archived, probably not worth much, though I think the first edition is, I believe it was separated, from the collection, I'd have to ask about it, some items were sorted out during the settling of the estate where the 2 siblings did not get along, settled after some legal proceedings, items that we possessed, but were later given up.

I bet that IH freezer was real nice. What is amazing is that chest freezers are quite cheap, I bought one 2 years ago for $275 from Lowes, Fridgeaire too. I bet that IH freezer was $300 back in the 1960s.
Those ads are great, a 30-30 Winchester for $69...? That had to be back in the early 50s.

A member of our local historical society donated this to the society. Coincidentally, its from the same year but different month as the one shown by JDemaris.

I have the same manual! I check flea markets and yard sales for stuff like that. And Country Gentleman mags, I love those!

55 to 58 my uncle was an OUTSIDE sales man for a ih tractor dealership. He always hauled a chest freezer in the back of his pickup. When he made a tractor sales call he would show the woman of the house the freezer . Seemed like he averages selling 20 or more a year back then.

My name is john and in 1946 our shop class of 15 guys had to build a model steam engine that shone in one of those magazines . I donated mine to the school and every year the shop teacher would put it in the county fair and i would get a small check for one of a kind. When the school was closed my steam engine came up missing and i have never found it. I would like a picture of it out of a poplar mechanics to put in our news paper to see if i can locate it. Any help would be great thank you...
