What do you get..........

What do you get when you combine
Drivers from the deep south
A persistent drizzle rain
And temperatures hovering right at 31 to 32 degrees.

Hundreds of accidents
All the schools closed
And a government that just says stay home rather than putting sand on the bridges.

Every major high-rise bridge within 50 miles of me is closed.

If you ever wanted to see what IDIOT means all you have to do is come to the deep south and watch people drive their cars when the bridges are icing up.

You do not have to be down south for that. Most people now days have learned common sense if for the old and uneducated. As in if you own a 4X4 you can go any place at any speed but the problem then comes up at 50MPH on ice you can only stop when you hit an object that does not move like a tree or other such thing

We had that up here for a couple years when all the gas driller dudes from down south were around. They just didn't get it that a little ice between the rubber and the road ment big trouble.

People in the far north drive the same way.

EVERY TIME there is an ice storm or a bad snow storm (and especially the first one of the season)... there are always a bunch accidents shown on the news.

Sometimes slow and steady really does win the race.

Road conditions may call for 45, 25 or sometimes even 10 mph -- but some people just drive 65 mph anyway...that's when bad things happen to stupid people.

I have seen the time when it took OVER a full mile to get stopped from 10 MPH (Loaded Semi on wet Ice).

In 5 minutes time, the autos had slipped over and Under the Semi Trailers..!!

What we will do for a Buck..!!

I have been on the highway here in NH when it was shut down due to rain on ice. Due to the crown on the road you can't even walk on it.

It is the same even here in the far frozen north. LOOK AT ME, I CAN GO ANYWHERE IN MY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE JEEP TYPE CAR...NEVER MIND THE ICE..WHOA...WHOA..B A N G.

You got that right.

One morning when the roads were icy, I counted 14 vehicles stuck in the median or in the ditch on my 17 mile commute on I-80.

All but one were four wheel drive SUVs. Idiots think just because they have four wheel drive, they can drive like they normally do regardless of road conditions.

Air bags, anti-lock brakes, 4 wheel drive, and cell phones have made many who were once sensible drivers turn into fearless morons behind the wheel.

There were idiot drivers in the winter long before 4wd was popular. They just didn't get quite as far before they crashed/ended up in a ditch.

Driving on bad roads has never bothered me in the past. The bad roads themselves still don"t bother me. What bothers me is being on those roads with these idiots. When the roads are bad, I drive roads that I know the idiots will most likely Not be on. Now a days, more so than ever, defensive driving means one eye on the road, the other one on the idiot.

I miss those "What do you get when..." commercials, like "What do you get when you cross a lawyer with calf roping", and the gate opens, the lawyers holding his brief case close to his chest runs out the gate and for his dear life as the calf roper kicks his horse into gear, lasso going round and round as he closes in on the prize. I miss those commercials.

Ron everything is open as of about 10am this morning.

shut down last night
10/59 interchange
10 at miss/la line
I10 twin span across lake
causeway 24 mile toll bridge across lake
I55 bridge south of 12
I12 in baton rouge
Every bride that crosses Mississippi river
And many many others. To many to list here.
As you know if you want to go anywhere around here you need to cross a bridge so we were basically stuck where ever we were; at the time of shutdown.

We have a lot of people from sough of the border in this area of NWIA and they're hitting the ditches pretty regularly when it gets slick. They go speed limit or above in conditions where we natives have slowed down so when they lose it and hit the ditch, or someone else or a tree there are fatalities. Jim
