New Dodge ! 3500 series

Hello,

Well I posted here befor again about a dodge 2006 2500 truck, and It got sold right out from under me a few weeks back. Well I found me another a dodge 3500 V12 I wanted to see if anyone had one and if it had been a good truck? Its not a new model but a older generation truck a 1995. Only has 107,000 On the OD.

Wes,

I think that is a V10 motor, how many gallons per mile do you get with a gas guzzling beast like that?

I sure would not want to have to pay to fill that up.

You could just pull 2 of the spark plug wires to get better gas mileage..........:)

Cant help you on the dodge end of it but I went from 7.3 ford diesel to a v10 and love it. My 7.3 was a 2003 with a crew cab dulley 4x4 I got 12mpg out of it. My gasser is a 2008 has a better tranny. Its also a crew cab s4x4 but short box and single rear wheel. I get 11-12 empty, i just brought home a 10k lbs dozer and empty with trailer (24ft 14kgvw goose neck) I got 9 and on the way back I got 7.9 I love the truck it has just as much if not more power than my 7.3.. That being said if I hauled every day I would want a diesel. For what I do occasional hauling and commuting it makes the most sense.

I had a 96 v10 4x4 for about 1 year. Sold that and went back in time to a 91 cummins. The v10 had tons of power, when it ran right. I had lots of electrical problems with it. Sensors etc. It averaged 11mpg. To be fair, it was well used and abused by the time I got it. I'm hooked on diesels.

Most of the stations around here run 50/50 blend. One 70/30 and I don't fuel at the place that just uses some $1300/barrel additive like they did in Michigan.

The station that runs 70/30 doesn't seem to get it right early in the winter, either.

up here #1 is readily available, but like you say sometimes the stations screw up and sell #2 late in the year, I usually treat pretty heavily with power service early in winter. Still never had anywhere near enough trouble to ever consider a V10! Never have liked the dodge or the ford.

Not apples to apples but I had a V10 E350 van. Averaged better than the E350s with the V8's we had in the fleet.

I looked at a V10 2500 Dodge. Research showed average mileage from owner reports was 9-10mpg. Low of 6, high of 12. 9-10 is what I get in my 'Burb with a 350. Just bought an F350 crew with a 351 and expect I'll get about the same. If you want a big truck you either pay for gas or pay for a diesel and then pay for diesel and maintaining it. That's just life.

My biggest aversion to the triton V10 has been working on them, in an E series they are not nearly as difficult as in a super duty. And all of the tritons just seem to have too many moving parts for what they accomplish. Just my opinion. The dodge v10, fuel economy is the only real complaint I have had with them. Always did like the idea of one of them with a 6 speed in a charger :)

That mileage is pretty close, I have had my V10
Dodge for over ten years. It gets 8 or 9 average,
empty or lightly loaded, makes no difference. Heavy
pulling sends it down to 5-7 mpg. However, I only
use it when I need a truck, not for tooling around
or commuting , so the mpg doesnt hurt much. I
really like the engine, strong as an ox, and I have
never had to put a wrench to it for anything....yet
!

Some guys don't like running a diesel. Some just plug them in. Boss never treats his fuel just runs 50/50 mix. The Cenex runs 70/30 but I had some trouble last winter and started giving it a splash of Power Service and quit fueling there. Put my block heater on a timer til the timer burns up again. Need to find one that can handle more than a string of Christmas lights.

Wes, My cousin has one that he bought new. I spoke to him today and it has 245000 miles on it and still runs good. A lot of parts have been replaced over the years but still runs good enough to take the snowmobiles up north (200 miles one way) with no concern about the truck. Chuck
