Mechanics: Retorquing

I am planning to re-torque the head on a tractor on which I am increasing the fueling, but the head has not been off. I plan to first break them loose CCW then increase by two lbs. one at a time. Any thoughts? The intent is just to be sure that they are all up where they are supposed to be.

I'm with David - why mess with it?

You have to loosen them all so you can retorque in the right sequence... and if you're not replacing the gasket...

It'll probably be fine... but I think the slight risk of introducing a water leak just isn't justified.

Is there a reason you don't trust the last person who put the head on?

If I were that concerned, I'd pull the head and throw a new gasket in.

Otherwise just go over all the bolts like you're re-torqueing them. Just to make sure there aren't any loose ones.

I think you are asking for trouble myself, if you
must check them I would only set the wrench at the
full spec and just make sure they are all at least
that tight.

I am with JR either leave it alone or completely replace the gasket and start over. What you are saying you are going to do is asking for trouble.

Just one thought ----WHY ? If it ain't broke.Head is not leaking . This is the best example of if it ain't broke because it is inviting disaster for no good reason. I don't even retorque H-D motors I rebuild because I use red loctite and torque once.My strong advice is don't do this.

nope that's a no-no. everything is sealed and seated where it is now. you can do a check on the tightening but that is a waste also. those bolts wont budge a bit.
you can increase fueling but I think there is other things to worry about than the head gasket.
