pressure washer question.

My old hotsie is causing problems, figured I'd try something else.Since the new ones are 5 grand or more I've been looking at just pressure washers.
Lowes has a Husqvarna that has 3300 psi,3.2 gpm pump,a three gallon gas tank, electric start, and can be pushed around on 4 wheels.Anyone has any experience with these? There aound 800 bucks. My hotsie was electric, don't know if I want to mess with a gas engine, but I like the 3 gallon gas tank.

Depends on what you use it for. If you try to wash a lot of grease and dirt, you will never beat hot water. No comparison. I have both, and I use the gasoline powered to wash eqt such as combines that all I want to do is blow the dirt off, but if you have grease and grime, it just makes all the difference in the world to have that hot water. I would look around, I would think you could find a hot water heater cheaper than $5000. Again. it depends on what you are doing with it and how much you use it. Good luck - Bob

Sometimes if you snoop around you can find a good deal. We have a gas powered 4 GPM 4000PSI Black and Decker that we picked up used with 20 hours on the clock for $275. It has a Cat pump and I forget the engine name but I was told by a small engines man it is the commercial version. The new gas engines seem to be good starters and this one hasn't let us down yet after three years of washing trucks. One nice thing about a gasser is you can throttle it back if you don't want quite as much pressure and flow. The portability is a given. A pressure washer dealer found me a used heater for $150 that supposedly had been gone through at his shop. The shop we use it in only has 120 volt service (so far) so this gas powered one fits the bill just right for us. One downfall to a gas powered one that we don't think about is the neighbors can borrow it but that hasn't been a problem yet. Jim

Its been my experience that sometimes you might be farther ahead to rebuild well built older equipment. As opposed to buying a new one thats not built as well.
I always thought hotsie was one of the better built washers. Like the other poster said you might want to fix your old one up instead.

Depending on how much you use it... Don't expect anything from Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, to last more than a year or two. These are home duty, designed to fail.

The difference in electric and gas powered pressure washers is the horse power. About the most power you can get out of a 120v outlet is 1 HP. Anything more and you're tripping the breaker. Buyer beware! Check the amp rating, don't believe the HP rating! The higher the HP, the higher the pressure, which makes gas more practical and safer than dragging out 220v extension cords!

I have a Northern with gas engine and kerosene heater. I just run it outside when washing in the winter.

Hottsie services it for me.

The gas ones are ok, start and work good until somebody else tries to use it.
Then it seems everything that could go wrong does.
I put a big 220 volt Karcher in the barn and ran 40 feet of hose outside.
Leave it hooked up all summer.
Now it is just like a carwash.
Turn the hydrant on, flip the breaker and go.
Enough pressure you have to use two hands.
Keeping it simple the boys use it more and come to think of it I do as well.

What failed on yours ?

I have one and really like it. Mine is the largest one they sold that could still run on 115 Volt.

The fuel tank is rusted on the bottom and leaks.
It's a 1985 model and needs retired.

Mine is not too much newer then that ? but I have a plastic fuel tank.

Fix it like an old tractor take the tank out and put REDKOTE liner in it.

I'm just going to get rid of it,don't like stuff around in the shop I have to work on.
