Finally boiled for the first time this year. I was afraid I would make history and not start until April.
I spent most of yesterday dealing with vacuum leaks in the sugarbush. Gave up and ate supper, than back to the sugarhouse at 7:00PM, and lit her up, finished at midnight. I didn't have enough sap to actually make any syrup, but the pans are sweetened, and everything seems to be holding together. There is one smoke leak, somewhere under the evaporator, but I couldn't find it last night, just knew my eyes were burning.
The vacuum releaser was acting up when I got ready to leave, so I shut the pump down and will deal with it this morning. I don't think it ever really froze last night, so the sap should have continued to run on gravity. There will be enough to start boiling again by noon.
This will be my first year with neither of my sons at home, no instant emergency help available. That will take some getting used to.
Gotta eat breakfast, then grab it and growl.
