May is beef month

I don't know if all 50 states "honor" certain months of the year for various agricultural aspects, but here in Minnesota my 2 favorite months for agriculture are May is beef month, and June is dairy month. With that being said, I would like to give a tip of the cap to everyone as a salute to all the hard working beef farmers out there that produce such awesome and tasty cuts for us each and everyday. THANK YOU! Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated. Please thank a beef farmer today.

I was talking to a man the other day that said something about cattle prices and the cow man making a killing. In 1971 I sold some 5-600# steers for $36CWT. According to the US government inflation calculator that would be $210 CWT today. I sold some 6-700# steers locally about a month ago for $184 CWT so we are a bit off still. The best money I ever made with cattle was in the mid 80's.

(quoted from post at 11:37:17 05/09/14) I agree. I just wish more of the profit would go to the farmers/ranchers who raise the beef.

Then find a local cattleman that will sell you a 1/4,1/2, or whole cow. That way the producer gets the money directly.

Most people that ask me that want just a quarter or half but don't have a customer for the rest. Even if they want a whole beef it takes almost as much fuel and as much time to haul one as a trailer load. I usually try to oblige but the extra price usually won't come close to the extra expense.

Thanks. My state don't do that. No beef month here. Alot of cattle guys like myself, work very hard and in all kinds of weather. Chores everyday in the cold winter, and alot of time in the hot summer putting up hay. In alot of cases you only get 1 paycheck a year. Its a big one, but you have to save most of it to pay the incoming bills that come in all year long. A post was on here the other day complaining about the price and had come across some bad meat. They did not get my sympathy about the price. To stay tractor related, I put up all my hay last summer, and done all my chores this winter with an H and M Farmall. Not to many guys can say that.

Gene,
I am with you, every month is beef month!!!

I do enjoy a side of vegetables with my beef, such as chicken, turkey or fish.

I consider myself a meatatarian.

Cousins raise hogs, neighbor raises lamb, I raise ducks, chickens and geese. I hunt deer and rabbits. I almost always have a freezer full of something.

Just typing this is making me hungry!!!
