O.T 99 CHEV Fuel Pump

Put a new fuel pump in my 99 chev truck and it doesn't work. Is there a relay or fuse that I should check or check for power at the pump plug ?

Thanks in advance

I would start out first and see if you have power to pump and then work my way back through system till I found the problem.

Fuel pump relay and fuse are in the electrical center over the LH front wheel well.

Does it start and stall right away? If so, the security system
may be shutting it down. Security system on that truck
shuts off the fuel pump after 2 seconds.

The pump won't run at all . I dumped gas in the intake and it started and run until the gas was used up.

Forgot to mention that the service light is on -- I suppose that could be anything failing other than the pump

"Forgot to mention that the service light is on"

How about the "security" light... flashing?

Also, how did it fail... was running and stalled?

Was running when shut down and then wouldn't re-start?

Or???

Pull the fuel pump relay and see if the relay is
energized when the key is turned on. It should turn
on for about 5-8 seconds when the key is first
turned to run. What made you replace the pump? Did
it stall, or refuse to start?

Like mentioned about the relay. I would start by checking the relay and fuse, they are beside each other and location is labled on the fuse box cover under the hood. I am pretty sure there is a "prime" circuit cavity beside the relay that you could run a jumper wire into to send direct power to the pump for testing too.

There was a known wiring problem with the fuel pump connector at the pump, but too my knowledge all replacement pumps have the updated wiring connector and supplied wiring/connector pigtail if needed. If not the old style connector was 2 rows of 2 pins and square, new style connector was a 4 pin flat. The old style connector was known for loose pins/bad connection and/or melting.

Bob : the truck was drove to the farm last year and was just parked , that's why I don't understand the problem yet --but it does have 180 miles on it .

The mice may have chewed on a wire...I just had that happen
on a car that I use several times a week..

Exactly! OR, the electrical ground may have been lost due to rust and corrosion.
