o/t and then there was one. ........

Well just got back from dropping the oldest boy off at diabetes overnight camp. With the youngest going to day camp this week. Most of you know I am the PROUD father of 2 boys with type 1 diabetes. My hat is off to the American diabetes assc and the local ymca camp to have camp 2 weeks out of the summer for type 1 kids. With the trained staff and ACTUALL endo docs on site for emergencies we can have piece of mind they will be there when we get back. Now what do I do about not having my shadow for a entire week. God bless them and pray for the counselors not getting the best rest . Trucker.

That's good to hear, it's good to get a break every now and then. I would imagine it is a full time job in itself feeding and managing two Type 1s. I'm sure it is good for them as well to be around other Type 1 kids in a fun environment. There are more and more kids being diagnosed at younger ages, which will bring more attention to it and hopefully more research. There are promising advances being discussed now that could be a real blessing if they make it to the market. Enjoy your free time!

My granddaughter comes back today from an annual week-long diabetes camp in ND. Great place with staff that is well trained and capable of handling their issues. She"s had Type 1 since 4-5 yo, and was thrilled when she got her pump. Turns 13 in Sept.

Excellent! My oldest is 9 and youngest 7 . Oldest was diagnosed at 22 months and the youngest diagnosed at 4 yr. Life is WAY easier with the pumps and cgm's. I'm really trying to figure out a way for a fundraiser tractor ride to help cover cost of sending kids to camp.

Diabetes is one problem that research has made great progress to control in the past few years. When I was in school back in the 50s one of my teachers had a son who was diabetic, relative little was understood about it then. Diabetes runs in my wife's family and until cancer hit her, she was able to keep it under control very well. I think it is great for kids to be able to go to camp under those conditions, and my hat's off to those who spend time supervising and caring for them.

I got it at 37, type 1 but only take around 36 units a day. I just rolled over to 73 and still farm and active but have slowed down these last few years. I did get an insulin exemption CDL. I have been on the pump for around 10 years because I can not tell my lows but have never passed out. Can not imagine how it would be to go through this for family and the diabetic at that young age. We do have friends that have kids who had diabetes at that age.

I have just chaged from the Silhouette infusion set to the Sure T. They are only 1/4" long and very thin. My stomach is starting to look less like a porcupine had hit me.

Best of luck to your family.
