sheet rocking price

Added an office to my shop. Had sheet rockers do the work. Carpenters hung the sheet rock, then someone else mudded it. They charged over 90 cents a square ft just to mud it. i thought I got screwed. Was that a fare price ? They did texture the ceiling.

Can't help you on the price, but texturing the ceiling is the easy way out. It takes a lot more work to mud and sand it smooth.

Not sure on price either, I've heard around .50/ft but it partially depends on how many corners and total square footage. If they are mudding a closet and have to leave to let it dry each time and have 3 separate trips then the price is higher due to more drive time. If it is an entire house that they can work in day after day with little drive time then the price per foot will be considerably less.

When I had drywall work done 15 years ago it was 1 dollar per sq. foot, material and labor. That is hang and mud. I sanded it before painting.
How many sq. feet are you talking about?
A small job will cost more on a sq foot basis.

We had some experienced guys do about 95 sheets of 10 footers, and 15 sheets of 8 foot moisture resistant stuff: Hang, mud, and finish. I think the bill was about $2,300. They did a very good job.

Ultradog MN- I worked with a guy that insisted that the job be bid on the total square feet of floor...i.e- 10 x 10 room equals 200 sq. ft.

I tried to explain that the total sq. ft. is 10 x 8 (8 ft. ceilings)= 80 sq. ft.

80sq. ft. x 4(walls)= 320 sq ft of drywall.

He could never figure out why he always lost money on jobs. LOL!

The best guy around here charges $1.50 per sq.Ft. - ready to paint. He is as busy as a 1 armed...., but still takes on small jobs for me. HTH

I gotta tell you about them guys, and painters. They are masters that make it look easy. They do with accuracy in minutes what I can't do in hours and days. Oh sure, I do my own, but it never looks nearly as good and always takes a whole lot longer. Something else about them guys. They never seem to cuss and throw things like I do. Come to think of it, those guys are a bunch of nice and pleasant to be around guys. I've never met one yet that owns tractors though. Well, no one's perfect...although of all the people that I've ever met, I come the closest by far.

Hired out the hanging and taping for the front of our house.
Walls and ceilings
Hung - 28 cents a square foot,,
taped - 28 cents a square foot
We bought the rock, screws, mud and tape.
Crew hung what would have taken the old man and I months in a matter of hours...
some things are best hired out...
Also had a quote of $1.30 hung and tapedd.
Upstate, New York

Just had a room done 3 weeks ago. The carpenters hung it and the fellow that did the taping and Spackling charged 10 bucks a sheet. pretty fair price I thought.
Northern Maine

For a small job, that isn't a bad price. Maybe even cheap. The guy still had to do everything he needed to do for a job 3 or 4 times the size.

Just had a house done. New construction. 2000 sq ft including garage. Same guys hung it, taped and muddled it, and textured it. Total cost $2750. I live in west central Arkansas.

Finishing drywall is SKILLED LABOR. You want it done right and to look good, you're going to have to pay for it. No one likes that fact, but that's the way it is. Any fool can slap mud on a wall or spray paint on a car. Getting it to look right and last...that's what you pay for.

I did an apprenticeship in drywall finishing in the mid 70s working on commercial jobs, union wages (Painters and Allied Trades Union). Took me about 3 1/2 years to get to the point that I could say I did a good job. Still had to work on speed but was also going to college in the evenings and left the trade after 4 years. When I built my house I had a crew come in to hang, finish and sand it. Was worth every penny, even though I could have done all of it.

If they had charged $100 a sq ft. pay it and shut up. I would rather take a good, hard beating as to mess with sheet rock.

Any price is cheap, as long as you dont have to mess with it.
