problem is tractor starts fine but after about 2 minutes slows down and stops. The throttle works fine at first but after engine slows down the throttle does not work. any help would be appreciated.

If a diesel it's typical scenario of return line fitting plugged caused by a deteriorating drive ring in inj pump. Loosen the 2 screws on timing window loosen gasket and see if it will run with fuel leaking out of window.

It is a diesel also forgot to mention this problem started after I almost let it run out of fuel(my bad) but it did not completely run out

X 2 what Texas Jim said. If fuel flow to the pump is OK then the return valve may be getting plugged with broken retainer ring bits, will look like coffee grounds under the timing cover, and pump needs serviced.

thanks for the info--I checked timing window earlier for any sign of trash--it looked clean. could it still be the part you mentioned? would this require an injector pump rebuild?

Pull the fitting out I've circled and check it for obstructions. On the 300B -when the plastic dampener fails in the pump - that valve will plug and so will the boots on top of the injectors.
