How Many Have Had This Happen??

This past Friday morning I was hauling my two 101 Massey tractors to the Adrian,MO show..The right rear dual decided to shed all its tread taking off the fender in to little pieces, bending the running board, and busting out the mirror..The tire is still sitting at 80 lbs pressure..Even thought the old tires are half tread I guess its time for some new ones..

Early Saturday morning I was going to load my 55 Massey to go to Adrain for the classic pull...A tire that had never leaked was flat and will need a new tube..The pull got rained out so I wasnt too upset..

At least my 1941 101 Super ran great and made a decent pull Friday evening....The bottom picture shows my two 101's and to the far right is a friends 101 at the Adrian show.

I had a inside tire blow on single axle semi tractor and it took out mud flap and splash gaurd for cab and broke loose the air tanks under tractor.

Had a right front on a tandem dump R model mack blow out, taking some of the fender well, or that part of the hood, also took the battery box cover off, and whatever else with it, the locking ring was never found it went so far into the vegetation on the side of the road. Violent stuff when they let go.

Was in the Air Force, were traveling from our detachment on the Peloponnesian peninsula in Greece to Athens in a Mercedes D309 bus (armor plated, low profile), it lost the left front tire, taking out the headlight and bumper. Our so called "support" base in Athens didn't want to do anything for us. Since I was the ranking member on the bus I told the folks in Athens they need to cut orders 'cause if the bus isn't fixed or they don't give us another one they'll have 18 members TDY in Athens until it is. Only then they "found" the parts (tire & wheel and a headlight). When we got back to det. The old man chewed my butt because I didn't call him as soon as there was any chance of us staying over, honestly I don't know how he became an 0-5 selectee without understanding the concept of a bluff or making a small problem a bigger one belonging to someone else until they play nice with you.

The day I purchased my 96 Dodge dually. On the way home that happened. I found a couple used ones. I hear rocks stuck in between the tires will also do some damage when they let go.Stan

On I80 in Wyoming a reefer a little ways in front of me threw a cap on a front trailer tandem and sprayed yellow insulation all over the highway when the cap ripped the bottom out of the trailer. Jim

It will happen from time to time.

Happened to me in 05 coming home from a show in IA.
Looks same as mine.

Air slowly leaked to under the tread and can't get out.
Builds pressure and separates the tread.

Radial tires have a expiration date that must be adhered to.
Also any time a radial is run flat or even soft for just a short while, when you re air, it all will seem fine for a while but it's hurt and will fail guarantied!

The worst thing now is those fenders are getting harder to find anymore.

A friend had an inside dualie on her F350 blow last summer while hauling a full 6-horse trailer at about 65 mph. Took the fender off, blew out the electrical hookup for the trailer on the bed wall, bent and mangled the pickup bed in that corner so bad it was unrepairable. Bed was raised up about a foot. Never seen so much damage from a piece of rubber.

Had a log truck going the opposite direction blow a rear tire apart right as it was meeting us. Loud and filled the air with shrapnel.

Boss had a Firestone on the rear of his F250 come unraveled. This would have been about 15 -20 years ago, they were recalling them because of heat related failure...

The tread wrapped around the inside of the wheel, pulled the park brake cable, locked both rear wheels, fishtailed him head on into the divider wall on the freeway.

No serious injury but totaled the truck. Could have been MUCH worse!

ive had them blow on a truck and take the mud flap off the rear and put a big dent in the fuel tank in front of the axle too, lots of forces in a tire, and it doesnt take too much to eat one of those fiberglass fenders plumb off as you found out, ive seen a front blow out on a kw, took the whole fender right off the side of the hood which is a 1 piece unit on those hood and fenders and grill, there not cheap either

I blew a back driver on my semi that hit the Timpte hopper. It popped some rivets and bent a couple of cross supports. But I run caps because of not that many miles.

After many experiences with radials on trailers tearing he ll out of trailers---I put nothing but bias tires on them now---They run longer, cooler & don't give near the problems as radials do

Just last week coming home with 2 tons of stone on a tandem 16' trailer blew the front tire. Don't know how it stayed up until I got home. Lots better than changing a tire beside I69.

Was hauling hay with a single axle tractor and blew a tire on the right side just as a Altas moving van was passing me. As I was moving over to the side of the highway they moved over also in front of me. I though they was going to help, but they jumped out and started looking for the tire they though they blowed.

ouch blaine,, sad to say BTDT.with my 95 cummins,, 3 times , and got the same result ,,, chek the date on the tire ,, I would bet it is over 10 yrs old , with tires and fuel so durn expensive, we just don't go as much as weused to ,, and therefore don't need tires that often, til sumthin like this happens.. I have the original 1995 spare on my truk now , tread is still 40 percent ,.aint no way I would take a 100 mile trip on a 90 degreesday

Went to Tucson for non running car to take to Bisbee for my daughter. 16' Bumper pull car hauler. ( Don't haul many cars with it, it's for hauling my 46 N) Rear tire on the trailers' pass. side started to lose tread. It beat the living crap out of the back of the fender before it finally all let go. That loose steel belted tread sure can do some damage.
