Briggs carb removal

I can't seem to get this carb off. Shouldn't it just slide off the two studs now? It will not come loose. Any advise?

Just did one of those.

You need a Torx SOCKET to grab the ends of the studs and unscrew them.

There is a flange on each stud next to the threaded area that is retaining the carburetor.
 
I'm not even sure what to remove them with. They have a kinda splined end--I think you can tell in the pic. I confess I tried a bit with some pliers but they didn't turn easily and the pliers started to slip--I don't want to ruin them.

They look like they just go through the ear at the front and rear of the carb and are threaded in to the intake manifold to me. I figured the nuts that were in the air cleaner sandwiched all this together. Not sure.
 
Sweet! After the other post I was searching for torx sockets and found they are called e-sockets (kinda reverse torx). But I just ran down there and tried your suggestion and my 5/32 6 point socket fit snug and took them loose. Great! Thanks!

Thanks they were as you described. Delta red suggested trying a regular socket and I found a 5/32 fit it nice so I got it off with that.

Sometimes I think manufacturers are in cahoots with tool makers to sell more tools. :(
 
I call them inverted torx sockets. As regular torx, they sure beat philips, and as inverted, they beat allen sockets for not slipping or tearing up the head of the bolt. Mark
 
Yea, the previous posters got me straightened out. Lately I've been doing some work for others as well as buying and repairing some for sale. I guess I'm finding out how really old my stuff is as I encounter newer engines. :) I was surprised to see a carb with a plastic body the other day. I'm also surprised to see how badly people maintain their stuff--and I thought I was hard on mine.
