I need to lay over a couple feed bins. They have easy access on three sides. Also have enough room to lay them down. Looking for tips from those that have done so before. They are not huge, both are 6 foot diameter units. One is a two ring the other is a three ring. I am moving them to my farm so they will be reused so I hope to minimize the damage.
Thanks

There is no need to damage. I put one that sounds like it is similar on my trailer a year ago, brought it here and took it off. Will move it again in the next month or so to it's final home. A good tractor with a loader is important. A couple strong helpers on the ground is needed.

Haven"t tipped them down, but have tipped them up.....got underneath the edge with 3020/148 loader, and raised them up. Sometimes the side may buckle a bit, but filling with feed can push them out. Laying down....maybe strap a large door to the manure bucket to cover the sharp edges....rope around bin to stabilize? Rope around back side to another tractor to control lowering until loader carries it?

I have set quite a number of them down. In the old
days, a tractor on both side. One to pull it over,
and the other to ease it down. I cheat anymore.
Just use the digger truck to do it.

We moved one years ago, hired a log truck, picked it up and laid it on its bed, transported it to farm, unloaded it, 1 1/2 hours.

I wonder if a grain truck or wagon with hoist if there not to
tall just raise the hoist strap on and down. we have tipped
corn cribs using ropes

When we moved to this farm ten years ago, I brought my six
and ahalf ton hopper bottom bin with me. I went into the
lumber yard that I dealt with , they had a tractor trailor with a
crane for placing roof trusses. Told them about the bin,and
what I needed done, they said sure, no problem. Thief truck
rate the. Was $60 .00pre hr straight time. The guy payed the
feed bin down on his trailer strapped it, then followed me to my
new farm 25 miles away..Stood the bin back up on mt new pad
for me. Total bill was 2hrs. $120.00 Bruce

I have moved a couple that size, with a tractor and
loader. Just put a chain around it as high as we
could. Pulled it over with the loader. Then found
the balance point and set it on a car hauling
trailer. The one I have at home to store horse
corn is two rings. I cut the bottoms out of 4 five
gallon buckets. Dug post holes 3 ft deep then set
the buckets in the holes and leveled the tops.
filled with sackcret. still good 22 yrs later. Oh
put 1/2 bolts 6 inches long in the concrete
sticking up 2 inches. Vic

I"ve done this several times. RAise your loader as high as you can, pull up close to the bin. Lay heavy carpet over the edge of the bucket. Wrap a chain around the very top ring (the raised ring that forms the top fill port) and hook this to the top of the bucket. (Note: the bucket edge will be lower than your connecting point of the chain). Start backing up slowly. The chain will start to tip the bin over coming towards you. The bucket edge will make contact with the bin and will control the bin. You will want to keep feathering the bucket edge downward as you move. Keep backing up until the bin is on the ground. Pretty easy really. I've moved several of them all by myself using this method. Now, the biggest one I"ve ever moved was an eight ton bin. 'Several 6 ton bins.

The tractor and loader proponents have forgotten to mention the flipped tractors, crushed bins , near misses, injuries and deaths.
Hiring a light crane is cheaper in the long run.
