That sure looks better than the one I ate at in Big Cabin, Ok. Ordered biscuits and gravy. The gravy was so thick you could stand a spoon up in it. I got a doggie bag and even she wouldn't eat it!

Jon,
I figured it would be in some other state and not here in Minnesnowta.
Been there many times and like it as well.
Last time I was there there was an older gent wearing a USS Missouri BB 63 ball cap. We sat next to him and talked about his ship for a while.
He was aboard in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese Surrender.

Clearwater Truck Plaza was one of my favorite places to stop.
I was one of their first customers when they opened, I forget what year that was. Back then when you fueled up they would clean windshield inside and out and sweep the floor out, check oil, water, tyres and fuel it up, there wasn't any self servicefueling back then.
For dinner I liked the combination Mexican plate they had. Good breakfast as well.
Its been 25 years that I have been up thar

Don't remember if I stopped at them or not. If I'm in tex. Nw of Ft Worth I stop at a little station off 35w at 121 and have a cowpie.

Is that the same exit that between it and Hyw 10 on the left, there use to be some Case 300 and a 350 tractors?? Been at that truck stop many times and stopped and asked about the Case tractors but too expensive.

I second that.

The food is great, and the bakery stuff is awesome. The diner food is just as good.

If I want to eat a little lighter, and not totally gorge myself, I go past it to Hasty. Good diner food there, too, and not as many tempting goodies. Lol

I likeum the place at Rothsay also.
Is the truck stop called East Acres at Watts Siding still there?
There were a man by the name of Terrell from Kantucky that ran it several years ago.

I agree, Clearwater is pretty much top of the line.
However, for a sit down meal, my favorite was Trail's on I35 at Albert Lea. Lots of locals eat there too. The owner's wife even filled up at the buffet quite often. Maybe just from being there so often I got comfortable there. When I was in the bus route game, I overnited 5 nites a week at motel next door to his old place in town. Got to be on first name basis with the workers.

Truck Stops are sure different than in the 60's when I rode with my Dad. They didn't have all the goodies you have.

The Petro at Angola, Indiana (I69 a mile north of the turnpike) always had good food. Til TA bought out Petro, then they must have been forced to use the same suppliers as everyone else.

Crazy D"s was a bit of a craphole, but they had good (and affordable) food. Now all pilots.

Was an independent on route 30 in Columbia City, IN, on the south side. There was a self-serve car wash that you could pull the tractor into to wash the hood and windows off, too. Did that often in winter when Schneider shut the truck wash down on us.

Used to be a Roadrunner on the east side of Albany, Goeorgia that had a decent diner. Now a pilot.

There was a small one on the west side of Vidalia, Georgia, that also had a pawn shop and gun shop in it. Nothing special otherwise, but no place else to stop anywhere nearby.

I-79, PA, exit 1, not the greatest food, but nice people.

North of McCook, at the old salebarn, was Vicki"s cafe, not a truck stop but plenty of parking, excellent breakfast, lunch and supper needed some pepper. But also good people.

The staff is what makes or breaks a place. The food can be horrible but if your people treat people right, they"ll come back. If your staff are buttwipes, people won"t come back, no matter the food.

Used to be a little strip club near Dunn, NC, that the girls would come out and make sure you woke up if you had to leave while they were still working.

Can"t really say as I can name a single favorite. If I did it would be the Turkey Ranch at Steam Valley, PA. On top of the big hill north of Williamsport along US15 (now I99 I think).

Nelson"s is very good- many good choices and all done well. I"m a good half hour SW of there.

Been there a few times and it's always lousy, hard to find a good place along 69/75 in Ok. The Iowa 80 near the quad cities and the Ta in Breezewood Pa. are also lousy for such nice lookin places.

Jon:

Your version of "cowpie" & my version of cowpie must be two radically DIFFERENT things. Out here a cowpie is more commonly referred to as "road-apples" except when they are really mushy & then they are referred to as cowpies. LOL!

I Like the Pine cone at Johnson creek or DeForest WI. Also the Pine Cone at Brooklyn IA That truck stop at Floyd Ia is pretty good too. The Ranch hand at Montpelier ID. I usually stop at the one at Sauk Center In MN

I've been in there a few times. Not in the last couple of years.

I met a guy in Pelican Rapids MN a few years ago wearing a USS Yorktown hat. He was on her when she was lost at Midway and he had another go down under him during the Philippian invasion. Wasn't a carrier but a dedicated anti aircraft vessel. Very interesting WWI vet to talk to.
