I had a 20x8 ft bin and filled it full. I only had 7 ton. There was a lot of light stuff mostly long iron. I thought there would be more. but at least it's gone. I got a little over 800.00. I think the iron price is down this time of the year out here on the West coast. What are you guys getting for iron? Stan

Looks like maybe the price is off a little, but not much. I took some old rusted corrugated barn steel in November, came home with a check for $300.

Right smart more than you got. Here in Tennessee we are fortunate to have a smelter here close. Your mixed load would bring $260.00 a ton here. Supposed to be up some after the first of the year.

yeah, they were paying $111 here a couple weeks ago. Not much going on at the yard. No stockpile so it don't look like they are anticipating a raise either.

if you took the time and had a torch to cut it into "shorts" you could have increased the tonage significantly and got a much better price, but you need to figure the trade off, for time and torch costs. You also need to sort steel from cast iron, to maxuumise your return.

I took 2 loads in last week here in S.E. Ohio. The first load had some old rakes, old manure spreader that I cut up and a gravity bed that I had mashed down along with a truck bed and some sheet metal. It paid $180. 00 per ton as sheet. Second load I took in was a Ford van full of scrap and it paid $200.00 per ton as body. Engine blocks are paying 240 and diesel blocks are paying 260 with short iron paying 280. Keith

Hi
there might be a shortage of trains to move scrap if it's shipped by rail, as they are moving grain from elevators, and probably oil to.

I got a load to go at a friends. the scrap yards near Winnipeg Manitoba. when he called to take it in. The guy nearly paid him more not to take it, and leave it at home. They ship out by rail and he said they got no trains and can't take scrap in, due to a rail bottle neck. so they dropped the price to stop guys dropping off.
Regards Robert

On the west coast I suspect the price may be depressed due to the longshore disputes. Not much is moving out of the ports.

I would like to know what were the rakes and spreader you took in. Steel wheel hay rakes and steel wheel manure spreaders are hard to find and bring good money. This past summer I bought a steel wheel New Idea hay rake that is what most would call scrap or parts at most for $150 80 mile from home, 2 trips first to look at it and second to get it. With parts I have from other rakes it will be next summer ready to go on the dealers sale lot to go back into the field. Currently rebuilding a New Idea 10A 4 wheel spreader on steel that frame was rusted away, owners are very ancious to get it back for use. Then up are 3 more New Idea steel wheel hay rakes for same dealer and a 1928-29 model New Idea No. 8 spreader for the brother of the owner of the 10A spreader, also a second No. 8 & No. 9 spreaders. That 10A spreader was built between 1940 and around 1950. Have 3 12A New Ideas for parts that fit the older 4 wheel spreaders. Had to pay at auction $140 for one of them just for parts. What a lot of people think is scrap and just haul to yard is the raw material that we need. This past summer add in paper for rake, called as soon as it came out, he had decided that no body would want it because of a broken hub, Big deal right, NO WAY. JUST A MINOR THING. From what he said would have paid him $250 or more for that rake he scrapped for possibly $80.

I hauled in a pickup trailer load of scrap, junk tractor parts & misc. small pieces, it was classified as 'prepared' and I got $200/ton, had almost 2 ton. I was pleasantly surprised!

It is amazing how much you guys get for scrap south of the border.
In my area in Northern Aberta i'm Iucky if I get $40/ton for prepared heavy steeI, it hardIy pays for the time and fueI to take it to the scrapyard

Maybe you fellers ain't selling as much to China? Most of your scrap being used in your own country?

Ironically, as of a few years ago our timber harvesters were selling everything they cut to Canadian buyers. Even after trucking costs, they were making more money hauling timber to Canada. Don't know if that still holds true at the present, though.

imber is worth dick aII up here either

I hauled two vehicles to a local yard and I got $120/Ton. I noticed that the yard was full. They are not shipping anything. Prices must be down if they will not sell it.
