I have the above mentioned tractor. The steering wheel and gear box has been replaced using a hydraulic lever I would like to restore the original steering. Any help; ideas? what year is this tractor. I may be looking for some engine parts as well (distributor) Thanks

It helps if you give us more info to go on.
I will assume you have a pre 1965 4 cylinder 4000?
The early ones of that model had a cable operated steering system. It used a cable in the steering column to operate a hydraulic control valve in the front end.
It wasn't one of Fords better ideas and later models used a valve in the column to control the steering cylinders, As far as I know, no repair parts are available for it.
Others here have updated their steering to the newer style or like yours jury rigged something else to get by.
By the way, welcome to the best site on the internet to get information on most any older tractor. But there are brand specific forums here too.
You will get good advice from the fellows over on the Ford Board if you ask about your forklift over there.
nnalert the Ford board.

Does your forklift look like this one? I missed a
chance to get this one cheap at an auction last
year. I think they were built from '60 or '61
through '64.
Maybe look at getting a steering "hand pump" and
associated parts from a combine... plenty of them in
parts yards. I had a 5000 that was converted to
hydrostatic steering that way.
