OT update on computer scam

Yesterday after I couldn't get that darned FBI thing off my laptop, I shut it off again and used another computer we have. This morning just for grins and giggles, I turned this laptop on again and it works like it always has. I did go into programs and found a new program that was installed yesterday (I didn't install it) I un installed it. I have malware protection on here and don't know why it didn't work like it's supposed to. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Keith

Good deal. I'd be burning some DVDs with any important files just in case.

The thing about the antivirus and antimalware softwares is, people are always coming up with new viruses and malware all the time, and the antivirus/antimalware programmers are always playing catch-up.

After windows xp became obsolete for internet use, I kept my old computer for my past and current business record with a back up hard drive. So if the old computer dies, I have back up. I even installed a laser printer on it. I have no worries of that computer getting a virus.

Glad you fixed yours. I hate it when someone messes with computers. Should be shot.

I have a HP desk top that is about 4 years old. I am retired and stay on this computer 5 or 6 hours a day --off and on, not constant. I go to a lot of different sites but [b:b3db6bdbc7]ytmag[/b:b3db6bdbc7] is number one.
I very seldom shut computer off because I have security essential that scans every night. I also have [i:b3db6bdbc7][u:b3db6bdbc7]Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntispyware [/u:b3db6bdbc7][/i:b3db6bdbc7]that I run, at least once a week.
Just occasionally one or the other will catch something.
So far (t-fingers) I have not had problems.

If you have not already done it I strongly recommend making system disks and a backup copy of your hard drive.

I use an external hard drive. I back up my computer every few months and once a year, more if it acts up, I wipe the computer and do a total reinstall of windows, then put the programs and files back on my computer. Got so I can do the wipe/reinstall in a few hours. One of the folders on the external drive is just for all the drivers.
