Mark, NOTICE the much cheaper propane prices in places that produce little or NONE (Nebraska). Why in H are our prices SO high here? kelly
 

I'm not impressed with propane prices at the moment either. I just opened the mail and found a bill dated Dec 22nd 2014.For my only LP appliance on the place, the pool heater. Tomorrow I may call the supplier and invite him up for swim after I chop a hole through the ice.
 
Just had my tank filled at $1.549/ gallon. I thought a pretty good price for middle of the winter. pretty sure external_link will correct that and I'll be using solar heat or global warming soon.
 
I noticed that Amerigas has bought out all the local suppliers. Might be part of the story. However, gas was significantly cheaper than in prior years for winter delivery.

Right now , farm diesel and propane delivered or small bottle fill at their store is the same price.

Just read the replies below. Got a new idea. The midwest loaded up on gas to dry corn. Corn drying is over and maybe the crop was smaller than anticipated. Surplus of gas. Market response, drop the price to dispose of it.

Otherwise don't know. However once I was in Biloxi, MS. buying shrimp at the seafood plant where the boats deliver. Price was higher than boxed and frozen in the super market. Guy said he had to get his prices up there so that he could compete nationally??????? That's what he said. Believe him? Who knows.

My question is why are farmers forced to use propane when supposedly there is "abundance of natural gas"? Yeah, I know, someone would have to build a Pipeline and we sure as hell don't want to have to pay for THAT (cynical). If there would be some kind of ground swell push to get the nation's natural gas distribution pipeline going to the American homeowners for home heating and, yes, out to the farms for crop drying, the pressure of supply and demand for Propane would lesson and the price if it didn't drop would at least stabilize. Just my thoughts. bjr
