LOOKING FOR CASTER WHEELS

I am looking for probably used caster wheels. thinking 6 inch dia. wheel or larger with maybe spring loaded on a good heavy dia. shaft.
Thinking of installing them on a heavy duty snow blade on the front of a 160 HP tractor.
Any help or ideas appreciated.

Can you find an old semi mounted mowing machine someplace? An Oliver 22A or 22B had two casters. Find a mower, take the casters off and take the rest to Fair.

I knew there was equipment with casters, but didn't know which models to look for --thank you..

Weld some flat stock on each corner of the blade to act as a slider, the blade won't catch on anything and it will be much easier to push with. If you are mechanical you can devise adjustable sliders to keep the blad up any distance ie.) half inch/quarter inch/three eights inch. You sliders can also be made to bolt on and if you cut a slot in them you can adjust them and then tighten them on

Instead of casters I used old heavy disk blades cut down some on adjustable brackets and they skid across snow and gravel.

It will take some pretty heave duty ones, I have 8ft Western mounted on JD on guick detach loader. When on float you will have the weight of blade + the loader frame and all. I used 650x6 4 ply and timken bearings.

Jim yeah they will have to be very heavy duty--my blade is 10 ft. wide and will be pushed by approx 160 HP

Google McMaster-Carr, they have hundreds of them. They will ship direct on your credit card, always given me good service.

If it were me, I would buy something made for the application. We started putting them on our municipal plows and they took quite a beating. Those were steel. Search for Root equipment or companies like Shults Equip.(Ithica MI) and Knapheide Jursik (Flint MI).

Lenray,
If I recall you are from Michigan too. As Blackhole said, Shults in Ithaca does the big stuff like what you are looking for. I have seen too many guys bend up the skid shoes that are made for the 100hp or so blades.

I think you want the casters that are on the Road Commision front V blades. I think they would have those in stock.

I know Jursik is into Western/Meyer etc, but not sure if they venture into the big stuff.

Rick

Thank you for the info. fellas--I will check out the Ithaca one and the other for very heavy duty application. len clare, Mi.
