Super MTA Diesel

Can I prime the diesel filters after replacing by just running tractor on gas with diesel throttle cracked open ? I am assuming the charge pump will pump with engine running on gas. Also what oil is used in the LPTO housing?

A gas start/diesel run Farmall will run for as long as its starting tank has gas. I do think it will charge the system. Jim

You need to bleed the water trap first, then primary filter before running the engine on the gasoline cycle. Then you start it up and bleed secondary filter. You don't open the throttle while doing this, UNLESS it does not fire up on diesel cycle, then you open the bleeders on each of the injection nozzles , open throttle some and bleed them.

Just like pete said, first water trap and primary filter, which are gravity fed, make sure enough fuel is in tank, fuel level should be above top of filters, and then secondary filter and injectors which are pressurized when running on gas

I suppose you could. But why?? Pretty easy to just open the bleeder valves till it 'spits' a bit of fuel.BTW,sounds like you really NEED an owners manual.

Shows what you know about MTA diesel Ih tractors, sure will run on gas. I have loaded a few of them running on gas.

That is gravity feed.It has no 'lift pump'.Running the engine on gas will not make the filters fill any faster.Bleed the normal way with the engine not running.

Just never been around one of those tractors.Kind of like the old Case cross motors, start on gas and switch to kerosene. They had them in the teens and twenties.

Not really, they actually have a total gasoline system carb and all that runs into the intake, then a compression relief in the head lowers compression and activates a sparkplug in the compression relief chamber. When switched to Diesel, the compression relief is shut, the carb is cut off with 4 butterflys, the ignition is shut off, and diesel is injected into the warmed up cylinder. It can be crank started, and is true diesel. Jim

No gravity feed to the secondary filter. It is pressure fed from primary pump in injection pump.

there are no butterflys to close on that tractor there are 4 extra valves in the head that open and allow gas mix to enter the cyls. the spark plugs are in that chamber in the head and when switched to diesel the 4 valve close shitting off the gas side of the engine
