Speaking Of A Farmall M......

I just found one!! :)

I have a 1949 Farmall C that I JUST put on CL this morning and a guy from our tractor club e-mail me, and wanted to talk (didn't realize it was me though).

I called him and we both figured out who the other was, and he told me that he wanted the C for a restoration project to give to his grand kids when done, but that he wanted to trade me...

He said that he has a 1950's Farmall Super M, 3 wheeler, and that it has a "two point lift system on the rear" (Fast Hitch???)

Runs and drives, but is desperate for rear tires...

Said that he thinks he wants to trade straight across for the C...

Something tells me that may be a good deal??? :)

I told him that I would be MORE than happy to do that, and that I would throw in a C parts tractor to sweeten the deal, mainly because I really like the guy!

We will see what happens, hope it goes through!

Here is a link to my tractor for sale. Has a wide front end on it now...

Farmall C

In my area at least C's usually bring more than the larger tractors. Just due to storage size, hauling weight etc. Now that I have more space I seem to be picking up more larger tractors.

The 'm' never had a fast-hitch from factory but that was a long time ago. If it's a 3 or 400 then you're that much further ahead. An M with benefits. Live hydraulics are great.

Good luck, Sam

That's a nice looking C and seems like a good price with a wide front.

You need to bring them to Ohio to resell.

Are they really worth that much more in other places? Like I said, over here, little tractor like these are pretty common.

My first two tractors were a C and SC, then I sold the SC. Now I have 3 C's and a SC.

One C is all torn apart, but is a very complete tractor!

I would be tickled pink if I could get $800 for this machine with a wide front on it over here... I bought my 1952 Super C for $300 and it came with a loader, wide front, and a 10 foot JD Disc! And it was nearly running, just needed a little love...

I thought that Super M's could have Fast Hitch? I can't say I have ever seen one though.... Bryce

M Farmall is a horse. But if your property
is wet & muddy, a single wheel M will be
nose diving in soft ground...

I'd go for it! I'd love to have that M I've been using to pull a trailer with but I doubt I'll have near enough money by the time the auction comes for it to go

Is it really a single front tire or a tricycle front? I don't think I would want a single tire, but I have a tricycle front loader tractor that is my chore tractor. Mine has oversize tires on it and they can be a pain if the front tires are too close together. Mine are spread a bit and work just fine. I don't think I have to use steering brakes in deep mud or snow any more than any row crop front end. I love my M with power steering. They are a heavy beast and like their fuel, but you will be amazed at the work it can do.

Adapted to a Super M a fast hitch is marvelous. If it is on am SMTA, you are in double fat city. Either way you will have no issue pulling the 2 bottom. If it operates, go for it. You have plenty of 20 horse tractors. This will spin your beanie. Jim

If it's a 1950 it's an M. SM wasn't made until 52. The M's never had the fast hitch. Fast hitch was first available to the best of my knowledge on the C in 1953. The 400 replaced the M during the 1954 production run. So knowing that makes it possible that a few of the very last M's could have had a fast hitch.

They are a tuff durable tractor. Can't wait to replace mine though. The WFE model was clumsy, seat is terrible with yer butt hanging off the back end and the early ones lacked decent hydraulics.

sounds like a good trade if everything is up to par with the M. Im in central MI and an average work clothes M goes from $1800 to 2800 painted.
A C will bring 1300 or 2300 restored. I sadly have a 50 J.D. B that has had the motor completely overhauled, body average, new fronts, case rear fenders with a set of JD to go with. Reat tires are great tread but been sitting 3 yrs and noticed a crack in both inside sidewalls. I should be able to get 1800 but would be lucky to get 1100. So it sits in the barn and I start it every so often just to listen to the putt putt. Lots of guys are looking for the smaller tractors so they will fit on a sm. sized bumper pull trailer pulled by the little half ton pickups. They can go to a tractor show pay little as an exhibitor and be there all weekend. Then they can put around and look at all the stuff and save the knees and feet. Around here little tractors sell fast. Fords, M.F. little ollies, farmalls, allis

I can remember going with Dad to the Farmall place in the winter. Saw the movie with the super C's square dancing with their tools. It was great. Then they pulled the curtain and there was a great BIG SMTA with a 2 point hitch also. Vic

Awsome!!!Go for it! The Single front really is not that much of an issue. But they are easy to swap fronts on.Single/'tricicle'/wides are plentiful. And A WIDE range of years will fit.A 2pt fast hitch was not 'standard' on any M/SM/SMTA.The SMTA had 'bosses' cast on to the back for later installation of a 400 fast hitch. You say it "needs tires",So does the JD 'A'.That's a 'draw' on that issue. If it runs good, everything checks out,Go for it! But we need pics! and updates. Steve BTW,if you need anything, have more questions..ASK!Call me if you want. (970)417-1178 (c)

As you guys know, I have a single wheel on my JD 40T, and I think that it does just fine. Doesn't really like to turn on wet grass, or ice, but that is what brakes are for right??

I am REALLY excited about it! Right now I don't think that he want's the C, but I think that I have it sold to another guy for $800, so if that is the case, and I sell the Oliver crawler, and the Massey Harris 101 SR, then I will have more than enough cash to buy the guy out of it... He thinks that because it doesn't have good tires, and is so big, that it isn't worth as much as a little one, which may very well be the case up here...

I can't wait to see it, and see what kind of shape it is truly in, but I do really trust the guys word. He is one of the few that I would seal a deal with on something without seeing it!

Thanks very much for the offered help! I am sure that I will need it!

Bryce

Bryce is in potato country where they wanted the single front for cultivating due to easier steering in the potato ridges.

Yep! There are a lot of potato/vegtable farms about 1 hour away, and that is probably where this tractor originated.

I have a JD 40T from that area, and it also has a single wheel. I have seen several different kinds of single wheelers on CL, most of which also have 11.2 rear tires, even if on a big tractor..
