O/T McGyver

I share the opinion of a lot of people on this forum about " reality " shows. Most of them are a waste of time.

However, programme buyers here in England have just got the rights to " McGyver " and I watched my first programme last night. What a man!! He can do anything better than the A-Team on his own. No pretence of " Reality ", pure fantasy all the way! Keep sending stuff like this please. Phil

We saw the new movie "Jupiter Ascending" last Saturday. Pure fantasy. Enjoyed it even if the critics are slamming it.

Phil,
We loved the McGyver show. Many clips and even some full episodes are available on youtube as well.

What I always liked abut McGyver was that at the heart of things, much of what he did was actually possible. Maybe it wouldn't actually work as good, as fast, or whatever, as what was show would have you believe, but the basis of what he did was still sound.

Some of the stuff, like using eggs to seal a leaking radiator, has been tried, and shown to actually work, on another show we have here called Myth Busters.

In the US we get your old comedies and some other shows. "Are You Being Served", "Keeping Up Appearances", "As Time Goes By", and others. They are strictly clean entertainment and not concerned with society's ills. Keep sending those to us. TDF

I had heard once that a lot of what was on the show was supposed to be "technically possible"...but Im not so sure about that lol. Always enjoyed the show though.

I watched most of the McGyver shows, and liked them,, but it was a bit much in the show where he chucked up a Nickle in an arc welder and welded a connecting rod for an engine back together,, I'm sure they were working with the "Nickle welding rod" Idea...but amusing anyway...

Saturday Night Live did a set of skits spoofing MacGyver. Called MacGruber. Was hilarious even made a movie under that name.

Found a clip on Yahoo.

I wish you guys would send us more stuff.

There are some great programs from your country (The Office, Sherlock, Coupling).

Unfortunately, instead of promoting those programs directly here, we copy them instead, creating americanized versions that don't even come close to the quality of the originals.

I never understood why this is, but I assume it's got something to do with licensing and maximizing profits.

... and Doc Martin. Bloody hilarious. Bought the wife all 6 seasons and the two movies on DVD.

Thanks for that link. Made me laugh. We have watched English programmes when we have been in the US and Canaca, but they dont seem to be quite the same when they are interrupted by so many ads. The programmes made by your PBS are always excellent, my wife and I make a point of looking for them.Phil

Doc Martin, Death in Paradise, Grantchester, DCI Banks, Inspector Lewis (and DCI Morse before), Vicar of Dibley, Ballykissangel, Midsomer Murders, and I could go on and on. I don't watch much U S tv anymore.

I saw that show once when it was on, decades ago. He got captured or something by some bad guys along with his magnesium bicycle. He somehow sawed the bike up, keeping the filings and shaving because they were flammable and explosive, used the tube under the seat as about a 10 or 8 gauge shotgun, put the filings and other stuff down the tube, rubbed some sticks or something together to ignite it, there was an explosion...and he was on next week, so I guess it worked.
