Not Fit For Man or Beast

Well it is a bit warmer here in central NY, 10F but the wind is really kicking up.
I had to be at the hospital for a shot of Lupron, at 8:00 this morning. The wife and I took a quick ride around the neighborhood on the way home. Took these pics., all no more than a couple of miles from the house.
The town hwy dept. has been out all week with the payloader bucking snow banks back. Good thing they did, or those spots would be blown shut by tonight.
I guess it will be a while yet before we get to work hanging buckets in the sugar bush and guess we better dig out the snowshoes.

Thank you for reminding me why I moved out of central NY so many years ago!
My policy is that if it amounts to me getting cold or wet, I'll pass.

Yes, you are on the correct side of the Great Lakes, or at least Erie and Ontario. The Finger Lakes here are nice, but I could live without the Great Lakes.

Loren,

We are really cold... but not the snow and not the wind. We sure wouldn't want to trade - you folks are just getting nailed this year. (We got it last year... so I guess it was somebody else's turn.)

Sun dog when from the end of the driveway on Wed., when I got home from work. Not much snow here at all this year... so far, anyway.

That's how it looked here Saturday. It's been even colder since then, but not so much wind behind it.

I dunno, ACG- Seems like I remember a lot of really nice spring and summer pictures from around your place on here. Flowers blooming, crops growing, pretty Case tractors, stuff like that. Lets just stick with those, shall we? The ones you posted are just plain depressing! Especially that third one, that looks like the snow is halfway up the blue tubes- I don't care where you are, that's a lot of snow, right there!

I feel for you folks, having to cope with all of that. "This, too, shall pass."

Not a lot of snow here this winter, but we are having cold temperatures. Next month can be our big snow month though. It always seems that way when we have a fairly dry winter.

Loren, that looks a lot like here, only I have 4' w/w fences with only a foot or so left above snow. Town brought out the Big Wing and pushed banks back beyond the ditches a couple days ago. Seen a couple places the shoulder huggers discovered the road was a bit further left.

State was out on the main road about a week ago with the blower. With the snow and wind last night, they're probably at it again today.

I've been busy just trying to find space to put the 'more' I know is coming so the feed truck can get in the driveway and we can get out.

Depressing.

I just got in from loading some hay I have sold. Temp 27 at 6 pm, supposed to get down to 9 tonight. Regular heat wave besides what you guys are having.

Got up this morning with 28 below. By 10:00 it was up to -10. I told the wife: wow, it's warmed up to -10 already. Really sounds stupid when you say it out loud.

There is still enough time for a good sugar season . Some time in the mid nineties I got an evaporator and spent all of Feb. getting it set up. That winter was like this one and never warmed up in Feb. Turned out OK as we made syrup right into the first week of April before it got buddy. Close neighbor told me he had not made syrup in April for a long time.

It's days like today that my dog is grateful that he took over my house and is no longer living on the street. He allows me to stay here too as long as I pay the utility bills, provide food twice daily, and, well, it's a long list.

Our family has been making syrup in this bush for near on a century. The only reason we hang buckets in Feb, is because we have extra help then. Kids on spring break. Very rare to have a Feb. run, and we have made syrup well into April many years. Last year was poor. Stayed cold through most of March with little moisture in the ground. When April rolled around it warmed up, it stayed that way. Some of us were takeing down buckets and cleaning up for the season and the uncles were planting oats.

Was -21 this mornin when I fired up the stuff getter to go to the doc. Not much snow here tho.

We had a heat wave this morning, it was 10F, had to warm up to snow. I had an apointment at the hospital this morning a 8:30 also. They gave me my first shot of Lupron to start my cancer treatment. Beth and I took the senic route home, and took the pics. First I have been out and about for the last week.
There are more pics of the day on two posts over on TT forum also.
