narrow front

Don't actually know for sure; but...

John Deere 4030, 4230 definitely available up to 1978. I also have a picture in a book with caption that shows a family standing in front of a JD 4040 narrow front they claim was ordered with narrow front from the factory. Although its possible the narrow front was put on at the dealer, or may have been laying around the factory unsold. Caption reads...

4040, Serial No. 11,759 delivered to Jim Birk, Hutchison, MN on 10-01-81 at a cost of $33,000.

I have another book that says 30 series were the last tractors with NF. So I cant say when it ended for JD anyway!

FARMALL built nfe 86-series tractors in batches of ten when they got enough orders for them. Mostly 7,8,& 986's. Last batch I remember was in spring early summer of 1981. No nfe on 88-series.

I am not disagreeing with you but I would like to see a pic of a 86 series narrow front. I always liked big narrow front tractors Deere 4320,IH 66 series,MF 1130,Ford 8-9000 series. Tom

Some years ago, there was a 986 advertised (w/pic) in the Lancaster Farming, with a cab and narrow front. Ad said factory installed. Wish I had had the money to buy it. Always liked a narrow front for planting and drilling.

I just did a Google search on "pictures of narrow front end IH 986" and got a hit from Tractor House several years ago. I can't post a link from my tablet...sorry.

The rear tire/wheel equipment on a nfe tractor was pretty common, 18.4x34 normally. Front tires were always 7.5Lx15's and the proper 6x15 wheel.

At the big all IH plow day put on by Marty Thieme and Wilson Gatewood the weekend before the Half Century of Progress every other year there is always a 1066 or 1466 nfe that you can find in pictures too.

The factory literature for the early 686 had a tricycle front option, The literature for the later 686 ( 1978 and 1979) didn't mention that option. So I'd say the last factory trike was about 1977.

Well I traded in a JD 1977 4430 flat top fender narrow front tractor. It was factory ordered that way. One owner tractor. It only had 1600 hours on it when I got it on trade-in. Needless to say it brought REAL GOOD MONEY. LOL I just was able to droll on it at the time. It would have been in 98-99.
