Hello;

My newly acquired farmall needs to be identified as to what I have.
The Serial Number on the motor is 354898R, just above that is 5 21 Z, on the frame is the number 8638-DE, on the front wheel is the number 6787-DB,rear tire size is 11-2-24, front tires are 500-15.
ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!
I don't know much about these tractors yet I'm older than the hills, all I ever did was drive them.
sincerely and thanks,
walt

"354898R" is the CASTING NUMBER of engine blocks used in later Super A's, and I'm sure several other applications. It is NOT a "serial number".

Can you post a photo of the tractor?

the engine block was cast may 21,1954. tire size is consistent with super As and 100s (both off set models). the 100 would have chrome "farmall" and "100" emblems on the hood; the super a farmall and model designations were decals. thus the 100 would have holes (3 and 2?) along the side of the hood where the chrome emblems would have been attached. thats about all i can do with the info available.

check right front corner of block directly below head for machined flat with serial number stamped in, it may be painted over or covered with grease or dirt, probably about 2 or 3 inches back from front edge of block this number should help you out other locations that may have tractor serial are metal tags riveted on left side of clutch housing or left side of seat bracket depending on model and if they haven't ben knocked off

Hello;
As you look at the photos and read my numbers from it that I sent, I have just bought it. As you can see there is something missing on the "dash". All that is on the tractor is an alternator, starter, horizontal distributor, can coil, two prong resistor. on dash is an on and off toggle switch, no starter switch etc. ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
sincerely,
walt

Gas cap on radiator indicates it is an EARLY tractor, with the non-pressurized radiator. The radiator cap and fuel cap will interchange on those models. The fuel cap will be embossed with "fuel", and the radiator cap will be embossed with "water". That TALL fuel cap, which is now on the radiator, is actually a baffled safety cap for the gas tank. If the tractor were mine, I would switch the 2 caps.

The pictures, and engine cast date code (5 21 Z (May 21,1954)) say either a "regular" A(1939-47) with super A engine or Super A(47-54) with out hydraulics(most have). A 100(54-57), has different grill.

If you can find another date(on another main cast)to narrow it down, or a serial number that would best. Then you can get a lot more information.

You have an A with an engine that is not from the factory. Someone has changed it to a newer one. Hard to tell what else has been changed over the yrs but it appears as though it was built before 48. What is the cast code on the tranny right behind the clutch pedal towards the driver.

Posting a picture would help. This Farmall A was in sad shape back in the 1970's when I bought it for $100.00. That included the 16-inch moldboard plow. Hal
