we were out walking our property and found a balloon it had names written all over it,it was in memory of an 18 year old man murdered in Newport Virginia on march 8th,we live in NW Wisconsin, about 1300 miles away.

If you're so inclined and have the time, it'd be nice gesture to get in touch with newspapers or TV stations in that general area and see if they can find the family.

I'm sure they'd be interested in the story.

that's kind of an interesting flight path , it must have gotten sucked up in a big low pressure system to end up in Wisconsin from Virginia.

I live in S.E. Michigan and once found a plain old balloon, not one of the foil type balloons from a furniture store grand opening a week earlier in Chicago. That would be directly to the west of me.

I found a weather balloon several years ago, it seemed like a real data collecting type balloon though. It had a very primitive looking homemade battery, some circuit board stuff and a couple antennas. It did not have any markings to identify what it was or who it belonged to though, pretty big balloon.

My place is a magnet for dying helium balloons of all sorts. But never one that interesting. You should do what 14 suggests.

We found a balloon here in SE IN several years ago that had a persons name and the name and address of a nursing home in St Louis. My wife reported the finding to the name and address. She was disappointed that she never heard back.

I've never figured out why use car lots always have to have balloons all over the place, but when I was a GM salesman if we got bored we'd clip one of our business cards to a balloon with a note to call if someone found it. No one ever called.

traditional farmer, you are saying that my neighbors have nothing better to do than put a balloon out on my land with 15 or 20 names written on it hoping that i would find it? thats interesting! we looked up the dead mans name and it really did happen!and i never said anything about a note.

JD... Back in 1952/53 We were Walking in the Woods, My mom and Dad.. And found a Weather Baloon that had Deflated it had a Tin Foil Type Kite looking thing attached to it, but NO Instruments with it, it was very fascinating to say the Least...The Sheriffs Dept came and removed it... Larry, in N. Ga

I found one many years ago in one of our fields. It had a post card attached to it from a science class that was studying weather from somewhere in the mid west. I filled out the questions and sent it back to them. about a month later I got a thank you note from that class.

I found a broken balloon with a paper with names on it while haying one time. The note asked me to retun it to the school that it came from. I intended to but neve did and felt guilty for some time after. Growing up in the sixties in northern NH we heard sonic booms from training flights frequently. One time I found pieces of what I was told was "chaff" it was like mylar 1/2 inch by six inches. probably released during testing.
