Eli the horseshoer came by today to reset the shoes on The Boys. Here He is working on Ted. It was 90+ degrees with humidity to match. We pulled the loader tractor into the shed where there was some shade to tie them to and turned on a box fan and made it a little more tolerable.

Eli is 28 years old and an excellent shoer. He really makes them look nice and is very consciences about doing a good job. Not many people will tackle the drafts anymore. Bob

Beautiful Horse!!! Glad to see a young person getting into that line of work.
Its hard to find someone around here that will do it especialy on the BIG boys!!

$200.00 per horse for shoes, not counting the cost of the shoes. The shoes will last all summer. He puts a barium on the for traction, which also makes the shoe wear longer. I try to have them reset every 6 - 8 weeks. Then I have them taken off around the first of Nov and just trimmed through the winter.
Trims are $75.00 for each horse. He earns his money. It took him a little over 5 hours and then he left to go do my neighbors 2 drafts.
He's a good kid for sure.

Even without getting kicked, it's back breaking work being bent over like that for so long. I couldn't do it.

We don't shoe ours, they're always on soft ground. But same here $80 to the farier to trim each horse.

Good thing our guy is young, if he went away I don't know that we'd find another one anywhere near us.
