Sattelite Internet and TV from one provider?

Currently I have DirecTV for TV reception and Hughesnet for internet. The cost of both seem too high for what I use them for. I live in Grundy County central Iowa. I am sure others are dealing with the same situation. Any recommendations? If either of these suppliers offered both, it would be ideal. I have an offer from Directv that appears to be about 1/4 the price for the first year of a 2 year contract of what I am paying now. Not sure if Hughesnet has anything else that I would consider.

You might check with ATT for a bundle. I'm in the sticks and for the longest time had dial-up. Didn't want to go with HughesNet because of price and I'm told they also have connection issues. I used Verizon for awhile, but used up my limit way too soon. Anyway, ATT finally came to my area and even though I can't use their TV service, they bundled me with their (very fast, no limit) WiFi for internet and Direct TV for my TV. I'm paying less than half vs what I paid earlier and with better service.
FWIW.

Not to rob the thread but I have Wild Blue/Exceed internet service 50 bucks a month but not anywhere close to perfect. Have AT&T cell phones with excellent service here at the house. When I talk to any one they tell me I do not want at&t cell phone internet. Is your internet from AT&T wire or coming over the phone signal.

I am set up the same way you are, DirecTV and Hughesnet both. I hear DirecTV can provide both. I will be checking into having Direc do it all. Hughesnet is pricy and all their support is overseas. Their billing is a pain too.

We have dish network TV and our internet service through them. We are very satisfied with the service. We used to have hughesnet for Internet but we saved money by bundling.

I have AT&T Internet over a cell phone plan. I use an IPad and it does pretty good , way better than the dial up I had. I get 3 gigs a month and never go over it.. The company is going to bring U verse internet to our area this year. I will try it a while to see if it will work OK and keep it if it does. I retired from AT&T in 2009 and I know they still have a lot of bad plant still in service. Maybe they can make it work though. Tommy

I would check in your area if you can get with a local wireless Internet service provider or WISP. The latency across a sat link will kill your "high speed" experience. They can't get everywhere like a valley cause they work on line of sight or near LOS. They will be cheaper than the sat providers too.

I think it's their Uverse service. We have a router that sends out the wifi and we can run any device from it. SWMBO and I both have kindles and also our laptop and even our old Samsung Smartphone that we got through Verizon. Even though we cancelled the service and can't talk or text through it, we still have unlimited data with it.

I had local tower before the trees blocked that. Then Hughes net, then changed TV from Direct to Dish, then Excede/Wild blue internet and finally both Dish TV and Internet plus Excede, 2 internet systems. I realize the internet comes from the same Via Sat provider but now I can monitor what's going on with the newer modems. Happy with both. Cost is no more than what you'd pay for that thing that you see in everybody's hand where they are constantly swiping their hand on it and you see it like you used to see packages of cigarettes and a lighter at a diner.

They have 2 problems I encountered: Equipment reliability and line of sight, and they mean that literally. I started out with local boys because they were local and I figured if I needed service they'd be right down the road, after dialup but after awhile I just had to find something better. Yes they were cheaper, but everything has it's price and mine is fast internet available when I want to use it which is often. Excede and Dish do that for me.
