Our local community meeting hall has been a dumping ground for trash. I was thinking about a motion detection camera. How close does the animal or person need to be to set it off. Thanks Stan

I would believe that information would change from one manufacture to another and it should be described in their sales information. I would look online at a minimum of three different brands and see how each mfg. is explaining how their unit works. Hopefully others will tell their experiences of their favorite brand.

Mine (I'll need to check the brand). Goes off with the tractors in the field over 100 yards away. Deer set it off at maybe 40-50 yards.
Chief I do not do well with the cameras and it will vary by brand. I DO HAVE LOTS OF EXSPERIANCE IN LITTER PROSECUTION. What you need to do is contact a law enforcement agency that handles it, they use them to. You need to set (more than one) get licence plate picture too!!!! You need to disguise the camera (put in a fake electrical or phone box etc.) Some camers can be viewed live on cell phone or computer even sends you a notice when it gets activated. WHEN CAUGHT SOME STATES HAVE QUITE A FINE FOR LITTER!!!!
I have three and they are all different. Had another one but it got stolen. I have set two side by side and sometimes one would catch a picture and other would not, then the other one would. Some have sensitivity settings, most have interval settings, all go to sleep when no action and like us, some are more difficult to wake up. Some will take pictures as the shadows of clouds move over head. They are interesting and I like them but sure would not bet my life on any of them catching what you want .
