all this talk of new trucks figured I would post mine..

I bought my first dodge ever just because I could get it in a 6 speed.. Elected to get brand new over used due to price of the used ones I found... I also bought a new work truck to keep miles off the diesel.. I plan to not drive it in the winter.. hope this is the last new diesel I have to buy for a long time.. ford is an 84 with 351w and a 4 speed..

Just ordered a 2016 1 ton diesel with a 6 speed,I like manuals too!trading in my 2006 6 speed with 100,000 miles on it.I think you'll like your new truck!

I like them both. When I bought my new truck in June ,I had to take auto.I couldn't see paying the extra $$$ for a Diesel ,just to get a standard. Seems stupid that you can't get a standard ,in a half ton gas. Just like your old Ford in the picture. But this is the world we live in, twisted by jerks in control.

I must be getting old, because I bought a new 92 with a 5 speed, and it will be my last. I never did like the truck because of constantly shifting, especially with a load, or trailer on it. It was also a standard cab, which is also my last new truck with a regular cab. I really like the extra room of the extended cab. Not so much on the full four doors, and I do not haul many passengers other than the wife. I have found the auto will haul/pull as good or better than the sticks. Just my thoughts.

someone in Ohio had it I'm not sure where he got it from.. he put a new bed fenders and rockers in it and painted it... frame is very clean I got a good deal on it and feel the ware and tare it will save on my dodge makes it invaluable...here is a before pic on the ford..

I would have got the 6.4 gas if I could get a manual transmission but can only get it in a diesel... the manuals are also detuned co pared to the auto 25 less horse and 200 ft lbs of torque I believe.. what I was told was this is due to manual clutch being the weak point... regardless I don't plan on abusing this to haul huge loads.. horse trailer, ocasionnaly antique tractors and camper.. It will have an easy life and I hope it lasts me a long time... I've had it a little over two months now and have just over 1000 miles on it..

Hi Jim, I just bought a 2015 Ram 1500 and love it. My truck has a strip of hard plastic/rubber that goes between the bottom of the bed and the bottom of the cab. This strip catches alot of dirt and debris and seems like it would cause rust problems in the future. I am thinking of removing this strip. Does your truck have this strip? Any idea what it is for?

Gotta really love a manual trans truck to put up with pulling a loaded trailer or camper though about 20 stop lights that are mostly red. I have not done that for a few years now, but still vividly recall the experiences. I do not live in the city, but have traveled through several and it seemed that every time I got into 4th or 5th I was staring at another red light, and started the process over again. Couple that with my experiences of a couple clutch jobs, and the fact that I have yet to do more than a fluid/filter change on my automatics, and the choice is simple for me. I have heard that some of the Chrysler autos behind their diesel trucks were troublesome, but that has never been a problem for me, and I heeded the warnings where it states to dodge them. Everyone has their preferences, and I don't mind taking a sentimental journey once in a while and drive a stick, heck it has been a while since I drove a three on the tree which I learned to drive on.

nice new truck.
really like that Ford too....been looking up here in the rust belt for a similar any brand one...gas, manual...no yearly plug-in baloney....not much luck.
researched the new ones again this year....no manuals in the trucks/engines I want....so no sale...maybe next year....not likely

to the automatics posters, sure, your points are right.
But, if you like manuals and that is [i:076f43ed88]all[/i:076f43ed88] you ever drive,
ya don't even notice shifting...it just happens with no thought..like breathing

ps to any manufacturers reading....
c'mon....regular cab, 8' box, gas V8, manual trans, no luxuries,...is that [i:076f43ed88]really[/i:076f43ed88] too much to ask for......

I like that Dodge...

Would take a manual for pulling any day of the week, been around them all my life, and am just used to em!

My little K1500 is the first automatic I have, and ya, for driving around it is nice, but it really bits when you are tugging with it...... :

Tranny is PROGRAMMED to keep the engine at a certain RPM, or HIGHER. So when you are rolling down the highway, and you need just a little more snort to crawl a little bump in the road, VROOM it drops a gear and darn near red lines! :p

The only Automatic I have been around that seem really good are the Chevys with the Allison's in them. Gas or Diesel, shift really nice, and they tug a LOT.

I am really surprised no one wants wood beds as well? I am sure a few can recall those, or how about manual steering, manual brakes, and dump the A/C. Just recalling some of the first ones I drove. First pickup I drove was a 6 cyl, 3 on the tree, manual steering, manual brakes, no a/c, wood bed (long narrow bed). Would not mind driving one just for kicks, but no way would I want to drive one 100 miles a day which is my normal commute. Still remember the old push to start lever down in the floor too on that old truck. And always took a few pumps of the brake pedal to get it to firm up Ahh the memories. :).

YES, it IS too much to ask for!!!

Trucks like that DO NOT SELL!!!

When you have yuppies buying pickups and SUVs for daily transportation, and never have anything heavier than a week's groceries in the bed, THAT is what sells. And, they want all of the luxury of (shudder) a BMW with the gas mileage of a Prius and the performance of a Ferrari. The basic work truck you want has become an endangered species because they sell 50 yuppie shopping carts to ONE work truck.

You are 100% correct. That strip will trap grit and salt and rub over time.
That strip was put there for aero. If it were mine I would take it out.

A manual transmission in 1/2 ton pickups is pretty low demand option. To recover the fixed costs of offering the option could cost several thousand dollars per pickup ordered with a manual transmission. For most people, an extra $3000 or $4000 for a manual transmission would probably make them consider a heavier duty pickup.

Manually shifting gears on an automatic transmission still works for me.

After pulling with my 06 Dodge with a 6 speed, and my 2012 Dodge with a 6 speed auto, I will try real hard the next time to end up with a manual. This automatic is always searching for the right gear, takes more horses evidently. Because this 6.7 is supposed to have almost a 100 more ponies over the 5.9, but I am sure the 5.9 would make this one cry. I KNOW THE ECONOMY is less then half what I was getting on the 5.9!!

I really like my 2011 Ram Mega-Cab with the 6.7 diesel & the 6-speed manual transmission. Pulls my 30-foot goose neck trailer like it's not there. My go-to-work Crown Vic died on me, so I picked up a 2011 Ford Ranger extended cab 4 x 4 with a 5-speed manual transmission. Little sucker gets 20-21 miles to the gallon. It sat on the dealer's lot for about 4 months. Guess nobody else wanted to mess with the manual transmission.

Does anybody have
those new 6 cyl.eco diesel that dodge makes?
What you think about them.Do they get good gas mileage as the
dodge dealers say?

This is a good idea, surprised the bean counters haven't done it.
We have been used to the manual being on the cheaper trucks...make it a big $ option.
Some of us would pay it.........
BTW, manual transmissions in new 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with a gas engine are pretty much gone too.
