7.3 Powerstroke No Go

Two weeks ago drove my 95 International 4700 200 miles. Ran perfectly. Filled it with fuel about 20 miles from home. Went to start it today and it seems to be not getting fuel. Starter spins it and builds 40 to 50 pounds oil pressure but there is no fuel exhaust smell. Fuel filter on top of engine changed 1500 miles ago. I don't use it in the winter and it always has been good to start. Glow plug solenoid changed last year[it was 85 degrees today] but no kick at all. Thanks in advance.....Ron
 
Showcrop, tank was probably half last winter but I've used 4 or 5 tanks since. Checked all the fuses, wondering about the fuel shut off relay....Ron
 
If all else fails , if I remember correctly there is a pin that can shear on the pump. I believe my brother had one do that. Other thing,is there a lift pump that may have quit working as you say there's no fuel coming up. Other thing to look at is the fuel shut off controlled by ignition can stop working
 
Does the WTS light come on? Does the tach move? You can check fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel filter. Hate to throw parts at it without knowing. Lot of expensive parts to consider.

Aaron, tack and gauges work as usual. Don't know what the WTS light is and don't see a Schrader valve on the filter. Is Ford application different than IH?..... Ron

Just playing guesses here and someone already mentioned cam sensor, but you can also guess the ICP sensor, maybe try unplugging it and see if it'll start. If you don't know where it is just do a google image search for "7.3 ICP" . Of course you can push the schrader valve on the fuel pressure test port to see if fuel sprays out, or spin the filter off to see if fuel is in the bowl.
 
It's a 7.3 Navistar T444E and it's full of 15W40 Rotella with 1500 miles on the oil that's not even black yet, just a dark tan colour.....Ron
 
If the tach moves, it's probably not the CPS. Check fuel pressure and the dipstick for oil. How much fuel is in the tank? On the Ford pickups, they were somewhat known for the bottom of the fuel foot rotting off. Seems odd that it "ran when parked" and now won't restart.

Aaron, fuel tank 3 inches down from neck and this one has plastic lines running to and from tank. Like I said it was running perfectly before I parked it in the yard. When I was driving it 2 weeks ago I even thought to myself "Dam this thing runs good"....Ron
 
2 Batteries?? Both have to be good for it to start. Of the 3 7.3s Ive had experience with, bad batteries are the cause 90% of the time for no starts.

It's been 11years, I called the CPS the "mud condenser" but anyway, my recollection was that it would give you 2-3 warnings before it quit altogether.
 
Mine went bad driving down the road. I put in the parts store cps and it still wouldn't start. I got tired of it so took it to the dealer. After putting in a new idm they went to blaming the injectors. It ran perfectly before it died how could it be injectors so I dragged it home again. After much more testing myself, I got a genuine Ford cps, put it in and it started right up. Just to check I put in the old one and the "new" one. On both it wouldn't start. With the Ford cps it would start.
 
I've seen many different ways of CPS failures, they definitely dont always fail with the same symptoms, some would just be a misfire concern, some died totally, some would only die when warm or running awhile etc. They are so notorious for failure I've know plenty of people to carry a spare in the glove box along with the 10mm socket or wrench to change it on the side of the road.

Its almost considered a diagnostic step to replace it by many people people too. Of course I'd probably start with a couple other things first.
 
Most likely not the glow plug solenoid. In warm weather it should start without the glow plugs, just be a bit smokey for a while. When testing the solenoid you need to make sure it is working electrically and not just that you hear them click. You also need to check them with the glow plugs connected.
