Seems like I have been doing hay ever since the snow melted

Started to do hay in May 27th and still at it with 3rd cut about half done. My dad only did his hay in July.He only had a dozen cows to milk, so didn't need a lot of hay, and never did second cut, always let the cows graze it off. I on the other hand will have done hay in each of the last five months. The job is starting to get a little old .Wrapped another 75 bales of third cut today, I think the end is in sight.

I'm in the same boat. I cut 60 acres of third cutting Monday and Tuesday. Got 25 acres of it rolled up Wednesday, then it rained yesterday. There's 55 to cut yet. If the field I baled is any indication, the third is better than the second was. I had 28 on the second,39 on the third.
I need to get finished up so I can start chopping corn.

Here in northern NY state we only cut hay in our summer season which is the best 3 days of the year. That being said, I am going to finish my final cutting today as the weather forecast is for several days of hay weather. As you all know the forecasters are often wrong but the law of averages says they have to be right sometimes. Happy farming!

Tell me about it! I had the radio on in the tractor all day Monday and Tuesday, not a perfect forecast, but it sounded good enough. As SOON as I got done and pulled in to the road, they changed it. We got .6 yesterday from several showers, today is drizzly. I had planned to bale yesterday and today. I'd say I'll have to break my pledge not to work on Sunday, but I wouldn't bet 10 cents it'll be dry then either.

I cut the 4 acre pasture that the horses haven't been on at all this year for the second time. it wasn't that tall but thick and I figured a hundred squares. It was full of lespedeza and the final count was 199. Don't need that much for horses with what I already had.

We haven't been quite as hard after it this year. First crop was done a little after the 4th of july, but we were done making small squares on the 4th. Had the last made into big squares, and about 7-10 acres gave us 48 9' bales if I remember right.

Second crop we had a 3 day weekend that I could help so we chopped it all and put it in a bag. Third crop is all cut now, and the forecast changed after I started knocking it down. I raked the first 2 fields I cut today, tomorrow I'll start raking the other 3. Single for now and hopefully if it ever dries I'll pull it double so we have some real windrows. Not sure how it's gonna pile up yet. Hoping we can atleast get 7 loads, but I'm not sure if we even have enough mow space. Might have to bring some to the hay auction on Thursday...
