Bulk Fuel Tank Cleaning

I have a 250 gal diesel tank that needs cleaning. The diesel that is in it has algae or some crud in it and I am using it for burning limb piles and such. When I finish using this diesel I need to clean the tank. What is the best way to do this? I have seen tank cleaner products in Tractor Supply. Will these work? How do you get the residue completely out of the tank? Thanks. Sid

Might be too big, but I like to take things to the car wash and set it on WASH and let her rip. Helps me get junk and crud out. Maybe you could set it in your truck and haul it.

Are you more or less saying run a pressure washer inside the fill hole?

Otherwise washing the outside of the 250 gal tank really isn't going to help clean the crud out of the inside, I'm not quite understanding?

I just get as much fuel out as possible, tap a rag to a broom stick and get it dry, put in a gallon of naptha, put a strap around center of tank, lift about 2 foot and slosh back and forth, drain and let it sit for a few hours. The naptha cleans but will leave the tank dry and then I stick my air operated vacuum and suck up any grit or trash.

If it has algae in it you need to add some biocide to it, get that stuff killed. Then add some gas, pump it out. That's what I did anyway.

Thanks for the info. I have a pressure washer and I can stand it up to wash it out. I also have some stuff to kill the algae. I was wondering how to get it dried out after washing it. Sid.

A neighbor of mine cut a hole in the tank toward the bottom and reached in and cleaned the tank manually, then finished with a power washer. Then he welded a patch back over the hole. There wasn't a soul to be found watching while he did the welding, but diesel is fairly safe anyway.

Yes, I was saying if he could, take it and blast the insides with high pressure WASH. Might be possible, might not. I've done that on numerous tihngs, works for me.
