Cockshutt 1550 fuel system

Hey I have a cockshutt 1550 with a roosa master injection pump
This tractor had been sitting for about 5 years needing a clutch
Last summer I did that and it ran good this summer loading hay
One day my stepdad was loading hay and he said it had no power so he poured a bit of the diesel fuel conditioner in it and the next day it ran fine
Recently I went to fire it up and it started but was running at low RPMS and ran for about 20 seconds and died
I can get it to start on either but it won't run on its own
We flushed out the fuel tank and the fuel lines/filters
It has lots of supply to the filters
We cleaned the little screen in the inlet on the pump and if still isn't running
I tried to bleed the injector lines and I get nothing so i took a line off the pump and cranked it over and at full throttle it just drips out
Is that normal? If not any ideas what's wrong with it and how to fix it ?

There are 3 things that come to mind here.

1 How much fuel is in the tank? Both my 1550 diesels if they get low on fuel will run really funny.

2 Check the fuel hose from the finial filter to injector pump I had one go bad.

3 On top of the injector pump (return fuel line) there is a fitting that has a glass ball or a wiggle wire in that fitting that if it gets plugged will make it run as you have describe. If the fitting has the glass ball or the wiggle wire in it ether replace the fitting with a strait threw open fitting or remove the glass ball (bust it with a small punch) or remove the wiggle wire clean and put back on and start the tractor and see how it runs. These are cheep things to check and easy to try to see if it works. Bandit

It has about a half talk of fuel
And all the fuel lines are good but I will for sure check that fitting
Thanks
Il let you know what happens in a few days

Sounds like it's time to remove and service the injection pump. Remove the two screw timing cover on the housing side and see if there are what looks like coffee grounds inside, that's a sign the retainer ring is failing inside. The bits then plug the return side causing the pump to shut down. Hope it has not sheared the retainer pins, locking the rotor and breaking the drive shaft. That's what happens when the return ball is knocked out and pump is used thinking all is well. If no bits are found the pump can still have metering valve, or plungers stuck inside also.

The fuel hose has some suction to it and it might collapse inside when suction is drawn on the injector pump side. It's easy enough to check. Anyway good luck and I hope these little ideas help. Bandit

Sure sounds like the flex ring. Most times it will have a strange idle , almost a galop to worn you of the problem. Simple fix. Pump is 40-50 years old. get it resealed and it should out last you. Dont let the big boys in the city hose you. Almost anything wrong in that pump can be repaired for 500 bucks or less. I strongly encourage you to make sure it is done by someone who has some experience with roosas and has a test bench. The guy repairing them on his pickup tail gate can get the job done most of the time. Its that once in a while train wreck that can be ugly. I see a couple a year in my shop that things didnt go smooth and now it gets costly. Better to spend a little more the first time and get done with a warranty. Good luck,,, Al

The pump was actually rebuilt 6 years ago and it ran great for a year and the clutch went so she sat for 5 years
Then when I moved in with my stepdad I put a new clutch in it

I took off the return line fitting and it is the wiggle wire style
I cleaned it out and blew it out with compressed air, put it back together, a battery boost and a bit of either and it fired right up, (runs awesome now)
Thanks for all the help guys!
