Grease Zirk Problem

I cannot get this grease fitting to take grease on this piece of equipment. I removed the fitting and it works fine, put it back in the hole, and it won't accept any grease. Anyone know how to get it to work? Thanks.

Best if you replace it with a New one..

I have a tool (Gaski-Ramo) that ya fill with oil, place against the zirk fitting and strike it smartly with a hammer, to open the fitting..
Very simple tool..
Works well..

Depending what the fitting is located on, you might try heating the surrounding metal a bit...........use a lever action grease gun and it will likely take grease, particularly if you can rotate the shaft at the same time.

try heating the area that the zerk greases to melt the old hardend grease. Then try greasing it again. gobble

Probably shaft is packed with dirt in behind the zerk. Take a sharp pointed awl and poke it in the hole and work it around and then blow the old dirt out. Usually works.

Yup, of thenzerk os clear, then the hole has no outlet for the grease to flow to. I have sometimes stuck a hot piece of welding rod down the hole to liquify the old stuff and then quicky installed the zerk and pump it through

Sometimes the bushing in the hole spins a little and blocks the grease hole right off and no amount of poking will open it. I have on occasion drilled a little hole through the bushing and got grease in, although if the bushing has spun it is probably galled up.

I have had success a few times by removing the zerk then spraying Liquid wrench or PB in with the little plastic tube that comes with it. Let it set a little while and dose it a couple more times.

I've used the "Blue Wrench a" a few times on grease zirks and it solves the problem every time. The heat melts the dried out grease and you can then pump new grease in.

If you are afraid of cooking more than just grease with the torch, chuck a 3/16 drill bit in the drill and drill the old hard stuff out of there. Run it slow and be careful not to catch the bit on something and snap it off. I have had to heat some sleeve type bearings so hot the grease caught fire. The crank bearngs on the traps on semi grain trailers comes to mind. I had them so hot the new grease I pumped in snapped and popped and smoked but I got the job done. There were no seals to wreck.

I've used a small drill bit to clean the dirt out. Had some that were neglected, had to use cordless right angle drill to clean out.

I had two on the round baler that were that way. The ones on the pivot for the starter fingers. I had to heat the tube that they went in to several times and keep trying to pump grease in each time after I heated them. They finally gave loose.

I sometimes find it hard to remove a zerk that does not take grease if it is one of those with a very small hex and everything is all rusty. I wish the manufacturers would use zerks that you can use a proper wrench on. I have never thought of using the heating trick on them in order to melt the hardened grease but I sure will next time.
