CA Alternator

Purchased a CA that has been converted to an alternator. The alternators size does not allow much movement in tightening the belt. Alternator rubs against the steering arm. Tried a new belt but still not much room to tighten belt. Any suggestions.

I have 2 machines where I use the shortest belt possible, and slip the belt on the alt. pulley then slide the bottom bolt thru it. Or maybe redesign the bracket for more adjustment ? Raise it up an inch ?

Does the CA still use the slip pulley to tighten up the belt?? I know the C and B do and if you have that you can use it to do part of not all the tightening

Hello rpatrick,

I would think a shorter belt is in order!. A larger alternator pulley may work too,

Guido.

old mentioned a slip pulley....look at the fan pulley....does it have two quarter-inch bolts on the side? Loosen them, and you can drive the sheaves together a bit. Hole for a punch is provided. It will change the fan speed a bit.
